Took the key to a locksmith i know who had a look at the fob, he couldnt repair it so recommended someone who could and i took it there. Ordered a new case for it and went over and saw the guy today and he couldnt repair the fob. So hes ordering me a new key from germany for £80 that he will program in for me. Why do range rovers have to have a stupid immobiliser lol
This could get interesting!

Stocking up on popcorn as we speak.:D

Don't think it's possible. Unless he has ordered the correct fob and he means he will sync it. He would need some serious diag even to find out the fob code if the BECM is locked. Then coding the fob would also need some serious equipment.

If you've got someone there with Nanocom/Rovacom diagnostics, then get them to go into the BECM settings and turn the passive immobiliser off. It automatically cuts in to immobilise the engine after it's been switched off for a period of time. Normally (with a working fob) when the key is put back in the ignition, then it is told to automatically transmit an unlock code and re-mobilise the vehicle for you. If it doesn't get that, then it tells you to press the remote - which manually transmits an unliock code. Again if the fob doesn't work, then this won't work.

If it won't work with the remote, then you will need to put the EKA in every time to get it started. Disabling the passive immobiliser will stop if from automatically immobilising, and let you be able to use the vehicle with just the key blade, until such time as you have a working remote again. You don't need to re-enable the passive immobiliser with a working remote, having it disabled won't stop you from locking/unlocking etc with remote aswell.

you need to listen to wammers my friend , this is going to end in tears and wasteing money for you , no1 order new key from main dealer who will order it from huff , cost average £130.00 Does NOT need to be synced by anybody , it does it itself !!!!!! make sure you ask for key 4 , as you probably not aware of what keys issued previously ..take v5 and i.d, to order your key at main dealer ,,,,,,this is the only way you are going to sort this problem other than replacing a lot of expensive parts ,,, i.e . B.E.C.M.--- E.CU.--- DOOR LOCK ----KEYFOB ,,, IGNITION BARRELL ETC ETC , and so on ,,,,the choice is yours , I know what I would choose and did so when my fob was f*****d..... 2 days all sorted hope you resolve your situation ,,,,

Im just going on by what this guy has told me. He specialises in range rovers and has done loads of them this way. I dont have a dealer on the isle of wight as ive said so this is the easiest option. He has and im quoting here "Official range rover diagnostics" no idea what that is, probably a £20 code reader from ebay. But hes said it will work. If this doesnt work, then ill get my money back and another friend is breaking the exact same car same year so i could just get new door lock and everything. Waiting on the V5 to arrive now anyway then ill go speak to him again.

Official diagnostics is Testbook but it costs thousands. You can get a Nanocom for about £400 or Faultmate for a bit more from BBS but they're not official and I don't think any of them can reprogram a key. If he can get keys from Huff in Germany for £80 then make sure you post his number up. It'd be worth the fuel down there to get one.

If the BECM is unlocked it is possible to programme a new fob/lockset code into it. BECM cannot be unlocked with Nanocom. But can be with BBS MSV2 and expensive software. As far as i am aware it is not possible to read the fob code from an unlocked BECM and write it to a fob.

No, you can't re-program fobs at all. The chip on them is 'One Time Program' - once programmed, it's written. If he can get blank keys from Huf and then program them to the correct fob code - then great. Either way, good luck.

I would try sending your old fob to Mrsporty/fobfix - I've known a few owners to use him now and from what I gather he can actually replace most of the components on the fob board and can test them to make sure they are working properly. I also seem to recall him doing 'no fix, no fee' so it can't hurt getting in touch with him and seeing at least if he thinks it's repairable. It's still worth trying to get the replacement key too one way or another, as always handy to have a spare!

My local Indy paid £90k for test book, guess you would have to do a lot of keys at £80 a pop to get some of your money back.

Why the rush to get this done if your diesel is up and running !!. There is a vast amount of experience on here and I would have thought that at least one of them would have heard of someone in the UK being able to do what your guy says he can do. Go the stealer route have a day in Southampton and forget the grief and aggro your more than likely going to find yourself in.

So out of interest did it get sorted?
