P38A Key code lockout

Hi guys im new to the forum after buying 2 range rovers in the past 2 days, a 2.5 DT and a 4.6 V8.

The diesel one is fine and runs good, and even the air suspension is faultess.

Now the V8 is a different story, went to pick it up knowing it had no key. Got there and he had a key (Very bad description of the car), number 2 though and it wouldnt work with it, car wouldnt unlock at all so the passenger window was off its runners to get in to it, climbed through and pulled the lock and the outside handle and the drivers door opened.

Put a battery on and then thought i would try the number 2 key, all it says is key code lockout. Remote wasnt working on the fob so i took it apart and acid batteries and some of the solder on the motherboard is missing which looks like where the batteries earth. No other doors will open even with pulling the lock and obviously the central locking doesnt work, and neither does the inside door handle on the drivers side.

So my question is what can i do? Im new to this but ive read about an EKA code but dont understand how it works and i dont have one.

You will have to wait about 30 minuits for the message to clear. This happens if three unsuccessful attempts are made to open the car. If you open the drivers door after two attempts then you can start from scratch again without getting the message

What happens after 30 mins? You telling me that if i leave it for that long then the key with the fried remote fob will start it?

I've it does I be surprised it will prob need resync to the car u will get loads of advice on here look for help from mozz smith he good at resync lockout problems

The message will clear after about 30 mins and if the remote is transmitting and synced then it should. If you have problems start a conversation (the envelope symbol top right next to your name with mozz Smith, the cake munching Manc)

Will it transmit with no batteries in? Also i cant get the central locking to work. Leaving it now for 30 mins and ill see what happens. If it doesnt work its gonna be a problem as i have no local land rover dealer as im on the isle of wight

I won't transmit without batteries and the central locking won't work I could have been double locked message mozz

if you had a nanacom you could disable the keycode and imobiliser and start it with the key

Got it started using the EKA code which i found in the boot. Ran for a while then ran out of fuel so i went to get fuel, came back and now its saying engine disabled, press remote. EKA code isnt working now and i cant get the remote key to work due to it being broken and not working. Yes ive tried new battieres out of my other range rover fob that works and still nothing. Looks like its broken inside the part where the earth is

Took apart the key fob and it looks like this, i played around with a bit of wire and a small piece of metal and touched where its broke to the battery and all i got was the red light staying on constantly. Then it decided to not do anything anymore. Is it possible to get a new remote? Ive read that you cant because something to do with key 1, key 2 etc.

You can but only from the Main Stealers.Think you will need veh docs and ID. About £170 and it will take a few days because it will come from Germany

Could maybe see if MrSporty on ebay could fix it

Yeah i thought so, only problem being that i dont have a local dealer, have to go to southampton for that and that costs alot on the boat from here. Is it possible to make it say the "Engine disabled, press remote or enter code" come back up? As its just asking for the remote now and the EKA worked earlier.

Couldn't you go as a foot passenger..


People from different places call stuff different things... We call a 4x4 a truck as its easier to say.

Yeah i suppose i could go as a foot passenger, but i dont have the V5 yet as only got it a day ago. Will phone up a land rover dealer on monday.

Also i put on my local facebook car group about it and apparently we have a specialist over here with novacom or whatever its called so im gonna give him a ring aswell.

Could be Rovacom. Could be Nanocom.

I imagine they could input the EKA for you but it won't stop your key losing synch with the car every time you try to start it until the fob is repaired

Took the key to a locksmith i know who had a look at the fob, he couldnt repair it so recommended someone who could and i took it there. Ordered a new case for it and went over and saw the guy today and he couldnt repair the fob. So hes ordering me a new key from germany for £80 that he will program in for me. Why do range rovers have to have a stupid immobiliser lol
