K series water pump... DIY?

Its only five 8mm bolts on the top part

You need to acces the tensioner for starters, then reset the timing marks when the belt goes back on (assuming it is not due for renewal) so yes it has to come off,

Sorry N.I., didn't make myself too clear there. The timing belt cover will definitely have to come off, no qualms about that. But the MG rover website states that the cam cover has to come off. Now that you've posted this I think i'm just getting confused in the terminology used in the MG Rover thread.

This is what i thought the cam cover to be: https://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/pro...=2813&osCsid=7b0a5bedb8666d445e3380b638865ff4

Hence my confusion.

Anyway, i've managed to order the cam locking tool from an Irish site for only 10EUR so should be with me very soon.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciate it.

I never even clicked on your earlier links................

Going by the part above, I'd call that the rocker cover.

But its a hell no, no need to remove just to fit a waterpump

I didn't think so to be honest, if you thought i was on about the timing/cam belt cover then my post #12 must have sounded really daft :p

I've called that part the rocker cover before, and it's called the rocker cover in my Haynes, if you think about it though technically it is the cam cover as it's covering the cams and the part covering the belt is the timing belt cover as it's covering the, well... timing belt :D

I just got confused from the terminology on the MG Rover site  i'm bloody glad i asked now as well

Watching the video a few times over i could probably do it blind now, i was a tad nervous about touching it before as i was quite a bit confused.

I've seen enough of k-series as it is :D

Sounds weird but the more i see of mine, and the more i work on it, the more i fall in love with this engine

It is incredibly easy to work on, easy to understand once you read things through and with a bit of advice etc and i'm just loving owning it. Probably because i'm learning so much from it and with working on it myself i'm becoming a bit attached to it. The whole vehicle has sentimental value to me now.

if its near the mileage it is a good idea to fit a new cambelt at the same time

Cambelt was fitted just under 10,000 miles ago at the same time as the HG. No coolant on it so it should be good for another 40,000 at least. I'll probably replace it before then as i'm a paranoid fecker at times but hey.

I may replace the AUX belt though as it's tending to squeal a little bit when the engine is started.
