RE: Land Rover Defender Thefts

Theft of Land Rover Defenders
During 2008 23 of the 227 Land Rover Defender vehicles registered to addresses in north east derbyshire were stolen.

I have taken an unprecedented step of personally writing to all owners of Land Rover Defenders located in North East Derbyshire.

Therefore if you have a Land Rover Defender in North East Derbyshire you have a 10% chance of it being stolen.
To date none have been recovered. There is a very grave concern for the security of your vehicle.

the theft of Land Rovers is a national problem. Year on year over 100 are stolen from derbyshire alone. It is clear that organised teams of Land Rover thieves are actively targeting Derbyshire based Land Rovers.

Methods of theft usually involve bypassing the immobilliser. It is clear that any factory fitted immobilliser is inadequate. Thieves have only been foiled by properly fitted after market immobillisers.
I have noted that recently one of the main Land Rover publications carried two articles on how to bypass our immobillisers

Vehicle Security

As a Land Rover enthusiast and Community Safety Officer myself i strongly recommend that you ensure your vehicle is fitted with an after market Catergory 1 or 2 approved alarm or immobilliser, that you consider the location that you leave your vehicle in and use a disk lock device of a recognised type such as "sold secure" or "thatcham" to lock the steering wheel.

Security Devices

Catergory 1 or 2 approved alarms or immobillisers can be fitted from £150 at your home address or other convenient location.

If you require any further advice please contact me on 01246 217671

Business Users and their Security
If your Land Rover is for business use your business is entitled to grant funding to improve the general security of any of your assets.

For more information please contact Richard Burgess,
Police Business Crime Reducion Officer on 07841 948558.

Please act promptly in relation to all the above advice.

yours sincerely
