Just been to see GRATCH and view a discovery. Felt safer buying from a fellow LZ'er. As expected very tidy for the mileage. Deposit paid, collect later in the week.

Only thing I can't tackle myself is welding. Can anyone recommend a cheap/good welder in or near Runcorn? As it's a discovery one of the rear arches needs welding.

Thanks

If like to say me but I'm just soooo busy with all things non car related right now I'd be annoyed to leave you hanging on.

Honestly the best advice is read read read and learn to do it yourself

It's an invaluable land rover skill and will save you many pennies, it's a crap job and people charge enough to make themselves feel better about doing it!

If it's not too bad keep in touch I'm sure can do it but I'm trying to squeeze a defender crossmember in the next few weeks so that's gotta get done and some other work plus all the non car stuff I should be doing aswell.

See how you get on but DIY is the best way!

Everyone starts off a non welder til you get a landy!

I don't trust my welding.

The real time and effort is in the cutting out and making little panels as the actual welding phase takes the least amount of time... If like me you've had a go and it's a skill that you just can't get the hang of you can at least save yourself a bit of money by doing the cutting out and shaping of little patch panels. :p

I've had a go before and gave up. It's the usual discovery 1 spot in the rear door shut near the seat belt anchorage. And to be fair GRATCH has done such a good job on the other side I wouldn't want to ruin it with my attempt. It's got a fair few months MOT so no immediate rush. I could wait as I'd rather give the money to an LZ'er.

Taking it to Silverdale on the 17th (if it's on) and that'll be it's first real test.
