Thanks for the tips everyone. I will ring Dakar in the morning and see if they can sort me out. I knew buying an 11 year old car would be a risk, I just hope I can afford to fix the old girl up because I only bought her to tow my horse- not possible with broken air suspension! So I'm currently quite depressed!! Keep smiling until I get a proper quote is my plan.....I feel another sleepless night coming.

c'est la vie.

Oh and if any mechanics do live near Maidstone, you all mentioned cake- I can only make cupcakes and more often than not they're burnt but I am a personal trainer so perhaps if you've eaten too much cake and wish to burn it off then we can come to a deal :D

Airbags are easy to sort so dont worry. Once they are done you will have other niggles, all part of owning a LR. However, in my opinion, a Disco with air suspension is the best for towing horses, the benefits far outweigh any problems you have now so chin up! You wont regret it ;)

i agree with you air bags are great for a car fully of teenages(7 seater)to towing the caravan with a wife that asks "nose weights are What!" but needs the ironing board and kitchen sink.Took me twenty minutes to change air bags thats with a nosey neighbour and stopping for a tea break:D

That is a very interesting concept considering a Discovery with the air bags replaced with heavy duty rear springs also achieves the same effect except without the arse ache.

This modification can be done in a very cost effective way and needs no modifying of the axle as the kit comes with all the bolts, bits, bobs and stuff.

All you need is a good wire brush and maybe a tap n die set.

Then, you add the 2 inch spring spacers and Robert is your fathers brother. A proper poser on the pony circuit.

Hello all. I am Charlotte and I have just bought a Discovery 2, 2001 plate. It's very pretty. However the car is sitting very low at the back and not responding to the manual lift button despite all the correct beeps and lights coming on, there is no lifting action. Anyway I've read all the posts on the Air suspension, (very useful) but I wouldn't even know where to start to do this kind of thing myself so can someone please recommend a lovely friendly garage in Maidstone area where I am not going to get totally ripped off?? Is there such a place??
Any advice welcome.
Thanks everyone.

You said, and I quote; "I'm just a girl so where do I start??" Try the kitchen and fix us blokes some grub, and get some beers too. If you know what's good for you.

:welcome2:

You dont say where in Scotland, just sorted my Air Suspension and also have Hawkeye unlocked for the Disco II and partial to cake.

Commute between G69 and PA27 if anywhere near

Not too far from me then. I'm EH4 in West Lothian. You'd always be welcome for cake biggeeeee, any Disco knowledge/tips greatfully accepted.

Charlotte, one thing I've learned on here already is, although I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm giving duff info. - I take it the Disco wasn't sitting down at the back when you bought it? It has gone down while parked up? If so, once you start it the doors have to all be shut (don't know why) for the compressor to put air in the rear suspension airbags. Worth a try to see if the rear will raise, then at least you'll be able to drive safely to the garage.

Okay I await the :boxing:

love this site any other noob would of got slated but a charlotte with air bags loads of attention:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Agreed.

I only look in "introduce yourself" sometimes and usually only notice the threads with more than one page, so i look as to why.

Being a lady, airbags and a personal trainer definitely provoked a response from the boys.

Welcome to the forum!

But, before you whizz off to a garage to get it fixed, if you have a jack, jack the back up to make it about level and then try starting it with the doors closed etc. I had to do this the first time with mine after i fixed my pump that was filled with water and refused to run!

Good luck.
