filled the Ninety's fuel tank yesterday....

YqBZZAF.jpg

daily commute (50 miles) and refilled.....

bit of calculation = 27.2mpgo_O

so, its consistant:)

also, the pas & alternator / waterpump belts are slipping with an excuisite squeal:rolleyes: its raining and I cannot be arsed with lying in a puddle to fix this:oops:

05.00 start tomorrow so the neighbours will experience the symphony:D

Rich.

When my belts started squealing excessively, it was the alternator on it’s way out. The alternator has been changed but the belts still squeal slightly but it looks like it’s normal for my Landy.o_O

so, been driving ~50 miles a day since last posted, think thats friday, sunday through to today....

run out of fuel today on the way to work @ 05.50hrs:mad:

gauge showed the needle just below the 1/4 mark:rolleyes:

suppose thats 5 roundtrips @ ~50 miles and a ~25 mile trip before it stopped so ~275 miles over a Ninety's tank fill ( are they 10 gallon???)

removed the sender to check and there was a 'little' diesel in the tanko_O

managed to limp to a fuel station & fill up - 49 Litres (45L tank?)

the maths suggest 25 1/2 mpg - less than lastweek:(

need to rebuild the Disco 1.2:1 ratio transferbox to drop the moorway revs as the current one runs out of steam around 65mph while drinking diesel:(

other news, everything squeeks & I'm going to spannercheck / tighten this weekend....

otherwise all seems good and nothing has broken OR fallen-off since putting back on the road:cool:

so, I've driven the Ninety daily & comuted ~50 miles roundtrip for a few weeks now:confused:

nothing has broken / fallen-off but theres some noises that need looking foro_O

trouble is that theres so many noises & I'm not sure what the bad ones are:D

Rich.
The noises are it’s way of telling you it’s working ok!

On my 300Tdi I did. I didn’t think it applies to the 200Tdi as it didn’t have the serpentine belt.
Me too, I'd forgotten about it until it just got mentioned!
I once got a Mark 1 Cortina through an MOT by putting a coin, might have been a 2 p piece, in the base of the front suspension leg. Cannot for the life of me remember why it needed it, but the blokey retested it and passed it! Thank God as I needed it to drive to France in to get married the following month.

Bet now youd wished it had failed & you never went to France lol :D
Dont tell the wife ;):D

so.....

driving to work @05.40hrs (ish) I noticed the voltmeter / usb thing showing ~12v, not charcing for some reason:eek:

drove the last few miles without care and investigated in the carpark:D

fanbelt was shreadded:rolleyes:

tightened up to allow drive home then attacked at leuisure:cool:

have most of the Defender 200tdi bits underbonnet BUT this adds to the fun when accessing the front of the engine:confused:

NDpWaIq.jpg

sorta quick-release of the airfilter & lower intercooler pipe.

YNh9aBT.jpg

still had knuckle-rash though:rolleyes:

old & new belts, I hve a few spares as I accept this :p
also an excuse to tighten the pas belt once refitted (the new pas belt is a smidgin too small so old pas belt back on:oops:)

BGPuxz7.jpg

chewed belt:confused:

zA52HtZ.jpg

all pulleys are clean & turn easily (well, the waterpump / alternator turn by hand and the crank-pulley turns with the engine:D)
will keep a spare belt behind the seats in case of another emergancy:)

R38xkr0.jpg

also looked at the horn, it's somewhat pathetic so hoped to find a replacement - failure as my 'spare' horns are single-wire types so further reserch in progress:cool:
