Hi! Fellow Masochists!...Any of you guys had any experience of Jap Import Rangies?....If so...any issues with Japanese spec vehicles worth noting?

Thanks in advance!

I don't have any experience with RR ones but I do run a Jap RE Import Discovery and it really is the mutts.

They tend to be higher spec than the UK ones and much lower mileage, also due to the climate they are rust free.

The only issue i've had with mine was the insurance company!

They argued that it was an IMPORT therefore different to UK spec, I even had one guy claiming that it had been built in Japan as a left hand drive vehicle, imported into the UK and converted to right hand drive! AND THIS WAS A LANDROVER SPECIALIST INSURER!!! Idiots!!

I quoted the type approval number that is on my V5, informed each insurer that was quoting me that it was a RE Import vehicle and got a decent quote in the end.

I have an import from Hong Kong. Like you say it's rot free and still only done 70k The cylinder liner still slipped tho !
Something's never change ;-)

Thanks for your replies. I have just bought myself a 1998 4.0 V8 P38 with...wait for it....18,000 miles on the clock....absolute mint....you'd swear it had just rolled off the line!
My mates cannot believe the condition of it...it turns a few eyes! and all for a fraction of the cost of a similar mileage L322 of say 07~08 vintage. I hadn't had any previous experience of Jap imports, but if this car `is anything to go by....they hardly drive their motors, and this must have been kept in cotton-wool for the past 13 years.
I do love the P38 for all its faults, and I've just retired my old 2.5 DSE after 4 years of fairly reliable motoring, but she was starting to give me the usual electrical nightmares, so, reluctantly, to avoid a money~pit, she was pensioned orf ! I was seriously thinking about a mint 03 plater TD6 with 80k on the clock, but when I saw this beauty....I couldn't resist it!

Well done mate.
This is what you now need to keep your eyes on.
Air bags , not usage but age perishes them.
Also, lifter pump in fuel tank.

The rest you will know about.

Nice one

My little bute` is very clean underneath...still has the original chassis paint in pristine condition!....I'm thinking about corrosion protection: Ziebart or something similar, before our salt takes its toll!...anyone got any thoughts or advice on this?....I'm not too familiar with under-body protection systems.

I would just say get done sooner than later. What about some pics of this vehicle????

Im sorry, better bodywork?
Does it not rain in japan?

I think it does and i think you will find they get harsher winters too.

had a few jap imports..

they dont use road salt...yes it rains, yes winters hard..but no salt..

I'll post some picks of the car when I get back from my hols at the end of the month.

Does anybody have any info about underbody\chassis treatments....zeibart etc?....I'd appreciate any pointers\advice.

How are these 4.0L V8s rated in the Range Rover stable?.....I may consider dual fuel/LPG conversion in the future....who does the best system?
