I've just bought a 101 Ambulance... (YAY ME!)

So far i've driven it around a field scaring the resident sheep and then once around the block after slackening off the brakes as they are binding on, quite a bit... Genuininely worried i might not be able to get it back home again!
So a total brake overhaul is next on the list of jobs.
At the same time does anyone know where i might find out where to procure a key blank/ new lock for the back door? It came to me without any door keys. I've fitted a new pair of front door locks and managed to get a key blank after about eight trips down to Morrisons to see the man in Timpsons. It isn't the right one as it's too long but it does slide into the lock ok. The very nice helpful man in Timpsons shortened it for me.
Does anyone know who the coachbuilder was who built the ambulance bodies? Or what TD26 might mean, as seen on the barrel face?

Able engineering 101 parts are your go to for info they supplied all my parts to Portugal with lots of advice...

Just remembered was probably Marshells...

Thanks for pointing out the obvious!
I only read it as '26' when i took that last picture to show the guy at Timpsons. Before then it read td2?
I'd tried searching for Yale td2 and td0 or tdg because that's what it looked like, if it wasn't just a scratch.
I hadn't thought to search for td26. In the last pic i must have just caught it in the right light.

Took better pics of the data plates in the cab and noticed one of them listed the manufacturer as MCE Limited. I googled them last night and found an MCE Limited listed online but it says they were established in 1996 so probably aren't the ones who built ambulances, but i sent them an email last night anyway.
I'm going to get a certificate from Gaydon to establish the date of manufacture as the V5C states the date as 1982 which might explain (if correct) as to why the box for the MOD reg number is blank.

If i can't find a parts and workshop manual at the next Malvern spares event or Stoneleigh next month i'll be calling on them as they keep in stock several different 101 manuals. There was nothing at yesterday's militaria day at Malvern

I get that, but I find the ability to search a .PDF document very useful (assuming the image quality is good enough to OCR it) & then print off pages/sections as needed. YMMV

I've already had a look at their stock. Compiled a long list of parts that i'd like. Currently trying to decide on whether to buy new plastic brake/clutch fluid reservoirs or opt for their ally ones.
I should be picking up a full set of brakes shoes and rear wheel cylinders after work on Saturday. If all goes well i might be driving it to Malvern on Sunday
What fuel should i be putting in this old V8?
Do i need to be replacing anything in the fuel system due to this new 'improved' petrol?
I've been a diesel dude for many years...

I went for alloy ones from carbuilder solutions...dont know about fuel I use the highest octane here..

How much were your alloy reservoirs? I couldn't find them on Carbuilder's website. They are over £210 for the set from Able Engineering.

Thought I bought them from CBS I mounted 3 on the original bracket...

The ones Able sell are direct copies of the originals, but in aluminium.
I'm still in two minds as to buy alloy or plastic and fit some 'teapot' covers on them

I did buy them from CBS they were 15 quid each but no longer available...

The military purchased a number of chassis cabs & they sat around for a bit before having an ambulance body (or other) dropped on them so the date of registration may not have anything to do with the date of manufacture. With only a production run of around 2500 these vehicles are becoming more sought after. Well done for securing one for yourself - regular propshaft greasing very important & super unleaded. If unmolested, there is an oil pressure switch that if unhappy in any way will not allow the ignition to fire up too. Lots & lots of differences in a 101 from a standard Landy, with the best being the lofty view you get when driving one! Rangie classic overdrives will fit - if you can find one even though the gearbox internals are different ( 1 ton) from the near identical externals of a classic Rangie. Have you found the differential illuminating light yet?
