I've got that sinking feeling - Terrafirma +2" Springs drooping.

the tighter the coil the more load required to compress it. I've got britpart +2" springs on, and have fitted them with the tighter part of the coil to the axle. I may be way off here, i don't know. Mate of mine fitted terra springs to his 90, and then thought that three were knackered after 4 months, as they were quite soft and one was very firm. Turned out the firm one was fitted upside down compared to the other three.

it wont make any difference as total strength of spring is still the same which ever way you put them in, its usual practice to put tighter coils at the top for a few reasons not least it makes it easier to fit/remove spring retainer plate

Hi all, reading these posts have actually made me join. (I have been a watcher up until now)
I had a very similar problem with my wifes disco about 3 weeks ago, I upgraded (not the correct term when refering to "terrable firma") the springs and shocks and wanted a small lift, after ending up with a "wonkey" car, spoke to terrafirma to check specs and they were as much use as a chocolate tea pot and rude so sent them back. Now back with the orginal springs for a while but looking a Old man emu.
Anyway I have since found out from a friend of a friend who works in a powder coating shop that he spends about 2 days a week unpacking britpart boxes recoating the springs and packing them into terrable firm boxes! and they also somtimes repaint procomp shocks. Very worring!

I am going to try and start posting more, sorry about the spelling

well , well ,well .. would be nice to see the proof...:) can you not pop and see?....

I recently decided to give my disco a 2" lift and went with Terrafirma shocks all round as I find the shocks are good from them, but after seeing a mates terrafirma springs go rusty after a few months road driving I took some advice and fitted Bearmach blue HD springs.

My truck sits perfectly even and drives well.

If that changes in the next couple of months I'll keep you informed.

Have you solved the problem? Same has happened to me so I measured axle to chassis and all's spot on same, but there is a definite lean toward the drivers side. measured ground to wheel arch and it's 1" higher on passenger side. Too busy to look at it proper so have to wait till the months out. I did have the ARB flip over on the passenger side a couple of times so I took it off. It did seam to sit better. But still I made a couple of 2" spacers then all was ok for a few days then the lean was back. ARB still ok but going to try again with it off. It is strange. Only thing I could think of is the body tilted on the chassis. Ahhhhh.

No

It's the same with the springs swapped left from right.

I'm wondering if it's a weight thing. I've got a 2.8 TGV fitted. I can't find any weight info for it. Anybody know how much a 300Tdi engine weighs?

The medium Terriblefirma springs (Terrafirma DEF/D1/RRC Medium load front springs | Suspension - Coil Springs Accessories for Land Rover Vehicles) are designed for LRs with an extra 100Kg of load.

At the front I have...
2.8 TGV - ???
Winch Bumper but no Winch - 20Kg
A Bar - 3Kg
Steering Guard - 10Kg
2nd battery - 15Kg

The TGV can't be 50Kg heavier than a 300Tdi.

Obviously, all these weights are minus the driver - when I get in the feckin door handles hit the floor!!!

Hmmm Strange Cant see it being a weight thing Specially if she stood ok before new springs. Going to check front springs on mine see if NS front is up. Pressing OS rear Measure length of spring if you can. whilst its on the road see if there's a difference. there doesn't seem to be on mine but there's an Inch difference floor to wheel arch. Passed one today with a lift. that looked the same down on the drivers side. It's a strange one alright.

Landy springs are all different height left right and front to back. I use RRC Red whites long and softer springs all around and they need slight shimming to get the motor level.

For my its not a problem not sitting level. I believe I may have even got paddocks springs i.e Britpart and they are fine not sagged and have been tested on offroad with probably 30K miles on them since fitting. I dont do alot of miles now days but they handle fine although too soft for quick lane changes and the weight of a roof rack.

I have just changed my rear springs for stiffer springs because now its being retired from trials there is no need to have the springs setup for trials when the motor is empty.

Terrafirma have a big name some love some hate. Procomp have always suffered with bad press due to poor quality welds on the eyes. Properly fitted they work fine and I have only ever seen them break when fitted wrongly or the suspension have been poorly setup. My procomp have were fitted the morning of a trial and have been on ever since probably 5K miles and 3 trials and 2 punch events much wheel dangling and even taking abuse clearing up a comp site driving around at speed before it got dark. I like them other do not.

evening,, are u still having ur problem?? i recently fitted a terrafirma 3" kit... (i say recently fitted it bout 4 months ago,,) and has been an on going project.. slowly rebiulding the car from the front end.. lol

think I may have had a similar thing going on???
have you got an ajustable front panhard rod?? before I replaced mine it looked like it was pulling the OS corner down aswell as the axle over.....?????

Yep - still leaning. I've got an adjustable panhard rod which is adjusted correctly.

I'm thinking of swapping to Old Man Emu when funds allow.

hi all.
just found this thread as i'm having this same problem with my disco 1.
from what i have found (lots of google searches) this seems to be a common problem.
some of the posts i have found put it down to uneven weight distribution and list things like battery+transfer box+spare wheel all being on the drivers side one post even said engine torque may have something to do with it i'm not sure about that.
most did say that fitting new springs will only solve the problem for a while and it will come back sooner or later.
if anyone has had any luck fixing this i'd love to know what to do.
cheers
jay

i've got the same problem, i thought it was because of the bobtail...i have +2" pro comp shocks and bearmach springs, and hate turning right!!..

Don't suppose you've got a shocker absorber that's sticking a bit?
I notice you said that springs have been swapped about but what about the shocks?
You may just have one weak spring?

Shocks are all fine and tested when new - 12 months ago maybe. My beef with TerribleFirma is that, when questioned, 50% of their suppliers confirmed their springs were "handed" and 50% confirmed they were not!!

With that in mind, I swapped the fronts over and it still drooped. I really need to swap the rears too so I've covered every combination. It never drooped before I took the old ones off.

I believe LR springs were handed to account for the extra weight being predominantly on the drivers side, aftermarket spring suppliers never bother with this or have never told me their springs were handed.
It could be possible that you have the plastic spring seat stuck in the upper spring mount on just one side thus giving marginally more height, or you could have one of these between a dislocation cone and the seat of the upper spring mount? (I did this once )
I would have suggested that your rear ARB link had gone overcentre and was stuck up against the axle (that gave an old Disco of mine a terrible lean until I sussed it) but you have one of those fancy lockable ones - I don't suppose you've maybe undone it one end to see if the car pops back straight?
Just a hunch, thas all :)
