Is this a sign of trouble

Thought I would give my disco a quick clean. Lifted the mat in the passenger side to find that the carpet is soaking wet.

Last year I had the sunroofs out and roof bars off and mastiked them all back in. There is no sign of water ingress at the top of the car so thought it might be the aircon drains.

Scrambled under the car and saw this oil patch (see pic). As a complete novice I could do some opinions as to whether this is a sign of yet more expense or whether it is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for any help.

Hard to say from the pic, could be swivel leaking. With regards to the wet footwell, most probably the sunroof drains. They drain into the A pillars. So what normally happens is, the tiny drain hole in the bottom of the A pillar gets blocked, the A pillar fills with water and rusts through into the footwell. (1st hand experience)

First of all I would say that you need to monitor this carefully. Clean all the old old and muck off, using brake and clutch cleaner, then dry with paper towel.

It may be the axle tube seal leaking or it may be something above dripping down onto it.

Best advice - clean and monitor.

Well you could, but when you drive in rainy conditions the footwell will get flooded and soak into the rubber sound-absorbing mat and rot your floor out - but the choice is yours???

You are much better off finding the source of the water ingress and fixing it.

If you remove the trim panel in the footwell, you may be able to see a hole where it has rusted through into the A pillar. If this has happened, best thing is to do is, cut all of the bad metal out and weld a plate in. Then, this is what I did, drill a 13mm hole in the outside of the A pillar hinge side about 10-12" up from the bottom, I then managed to fish the drain tube out through the hole (it's tight) so that it drains onto the top of the sill (or plastic sill trim)

Sorry, just realised you have a D2, not sure if the drain tubes run the same as the D1. I'd image they do though. They just finish inside the A pillar, a few inches from the bottom. Just to ensure that it rusts from the inside out.... Those clever LR boys!

Struggling with all the usual wet floor issues - removed the screen trim and found the glass is not even touching the car body - no seal at all ! So screen sealing is a good place to start.

Thanks to all for the advice. I will get cleaning
