Is the Discovery a 'Proper' Land Rover?

Genuinely practical, owner servicable, classless character, cheap to buy and run (compared to foriegn competition) Laminated windscreen that should stand up well enough not to stop progress with out needing to be changed imediately (in an emergency) of course its a Proper bl**d*ng Landrover. As for the Cart springs on your original vs Coils well thats just progression of design and a plus for all modern landrovers. No flapping leaking canvas either but the sunroofs and alpinelights might aswell be made out of mesh lol.

And as RyanP said, the Disco1 is definatly the best compromise. I honestly cant ever imagine selling mine. after all the time and money that I have spent on it, it just wouldn't be worth it. The added bonus is that the wife loves it too.

I have owned both a 90 and now a Disco 300Tdi and pound for pound, off road or on - they would be hard to seperate- the Disco has more toys and has more comfort factor - but it leaks oil just like my 90 did

so yes a Discovery is a PROPER Landrover

er. . . . . .in defence er gaylanders, they is jist as good as tratters on/orft road in fact better than all ,on tarmac and td4 returns 38mpg ,yer jist uld fuddies living in the past . . . . .un ma doors only fell orft once [gotum wet] un i dunt have a porky pig in the back . . . . . .

If your going to be senselessly abusive, at least get your facts right. Blown head gaskets are generally a 1.8 petrol problem, a British engine. The German engine is the Td4.

Although I remember the launch event at a local dealer. They were presenting all the new gear that went with it, Discovery Hat, Discover Jacket, Discover Picnic Hamper etc when a voice from the back said
"I bet they do a Discovery Condom"
From the other side of the room, the immediate reply

its been said before and il say it again(my disco1 doesnt leak oil its marking its teritory)

Bought a Rover 75 estate because I have 3 dogs, 3 weeks ago instead of my high milage Discovery 300 that had seldom let me down now I am ready after such a short time for another Discovery they really are the creame de la creame of Land Rovers, and I miss not having one greatly.

Monocoque construction and HDC = SUV that funds Landrover so that they can continue for another 60 years

Unless My disco1 is a cleverly discuised fiat punto - the badge and minor faults assures me shes a landrover. She does everyrhing I ask of her like a tank without any problems, until ofcourse something goes with a bang which really assures me its a landy

Because my female wont let me have a series or defender

i thought discos were made only for suppling transplant tdi engins and alloy wheels on to proper landrovers (defenders) thats what the haynes manual says

A Disco is a thinking man's defender!!!!!!!!
