Is puff of black smoke a problem?

Told my local mechanic recently that my 110 200Tdi (1992) tends to push out some black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating after changing gear or going uphill. He said that this is just normal Landy behaviour, but I wanted to be sure.

Does anyone else experience this with their Landy of a similar age?

i'll get a video of mine some time, then you'll see what smoke is ;) nah don't worry about it too much, but mabie could do with a service if it hasn't been done recently, that would clean up the smoke a little :)

Pretty normal, when driving normally I can't see any but floor it and it'll kick up a big cloud and leave a trail like a red arrow (but black :D), they're not quite so refined as modern diesels with their computers that keep everything precise.

My TD5 doesn't do that yet - I almost wish it did.

There was a fit blonde in a convertible Beamer tailgating me earlier on my way home from work. I would've loved to have blatted the accelerator and left her looking like a coal miner at the end of a 40 hour shift.

perfectly normal ,when you accelerate increased fuel gets there before the air (turbo lag),when your going up hill you put your foot down further to achieve the same revs ,again more fuel than air as turbo is driven slower
