next door neighbour caught me earlier, said hes been sorting his unit out and came across a comlete head inc all the injectors and everything, for the bmw p38 deisel engine, asked me if i wasnted it to keep as spare, said bung him £50 or something for it if i wanted

is it worth getting to stash away in the garage ?

also, would the head definatly fit mine or are there any variations in the bmw engine from diff years ?

As far as I am aware there were no changes to the heads in the engines lifetime....

Would be good to keep around....as Landowner says.....better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have (like a Condom...or a Gun)

whats the likleyhood id need it in my ownership ? ie that a head issue/issue where id need a replacement head could arrise ? how would that come about in what senarios ? as ive not got a clue

and what would one normaly cost ?
 
If I was you I'd buy it, get it tested then stick it somewhere safe. If you don't use it then once you're fed up with it stick it on ebay for £250+.
 
How do you know it's a good un and not cracked? Usually the only reason for a head parting company with the rest of the engine is that it has failed.
The heads crack if overheated and also at high mileage if they are worked hard.
 
i dont know if its cracked or foooked, i very much dbout my long term next door neighbour and a good lad, would go out to try n rip me off for £50, but anyway i could test it or visual check if i were to ?

im thinking £50 is worth it , like above to get the injectors refurbed, and maybe swap them over somewhen for mine maybe one day, n keep as a spare

Injector 4 is different between pre EGR and EGR engines:)
