I have a 200td1. Now just asking whether I am right in saying that oil around the intercooler hoses with no obvious source (Turbo not leaking) could be evidence of the Intercooler needing cleaning. Now said oily substance may be due to the cyclone breather thingy being blocked? (maybe) Am i right or am I hoping a bit? And what would you knowledgable fellows recommend to clean the Intercooler hoses and breather in? Would parafin do?

Thanks for any help!

Clean it with petrol or paraffin...fill it and leave it for a few hours/overnight. Shake, baby shake....then leave again to dry out few hours...pipework always benefits from a clean or renewal...

I'd do the cyclone breather same time, its simple and as you're getting dirty you may as well do it...all the hose/pipe work needs doing regular, i found i lost a lot of (snigger) performance due to poor connections/partly blocked pipes/loss of pressure/oil etc...

Could be causing the smoking when I hit a hill too ... well one cause gonna give the old girl a damn good service over the coming weeks as I've had her a couple of months now and have drawn up a list of to do's:eek:

Looked in the Book, says clean all with paraffin and make sure COMPLETELY dry (very insistent on this point,it was!) before refitting. And as has been said here many times, seal the cyclone breather in when refitting

When did you last change filters? (re: Black smoke, i presume its black)

Havent changed the filters since I got it but it is on the to do list but if the intercoolers gunked up that wont help either so I'll clean it whilst i'm working in that general area got new belts to fit too. probably by lookin under the lid taking the intercooler out will help with access to the belts tooand i'll change the filters at the same time.

On the 300 the pipe stub of the cyclone that pushes into the ally has an o-ring which is not really sufficient but should be replaced and then it seems, from what has been said,to be general practice,to put a bead of silicone or other RTV sealant on the flat faces before re-assembly.....if the 200 is similar ( I forget ) then doing the same would be a good idea. Its a heller for oil leaks, else
