Phoned up to insure the disco (only bought it at the weekend) and declared it to have the landrover built in immobiliser, was asked by the insurance company if i have the certificate of proof. i explained that i didn't and was told that they would insure the car BUT it wouldn't be covered against theft even though i am full comp.
Is there anyway i can get hold of this certificate or get the car checked out and a new cert issued?

factory fitted alarms/immobilisers dont need certificates, ive only ever been asked for certs for imports by directline

This is what i thought and is what i told the person on the phone butthey insisted i send them a copy of the certificate. Will wait until the insurance comes through and then i'll ring back up and make more enquires.

Tried downloading but when clicked to read ended up with a copy of roxio? and only downloaded 91mb when it states it should be 400ish MB

Owners handbook (300TDi) states "Anti-theft Alarm (if fitted)" so probably would'nt be accepted as proof that it's fitted to your LR. Do you have the Land Rover fob or an aftermarket one? If it's a LR fob then I'd imagine it was fitted as standard when the car was built.

I've never had any probs with insurance when I've told them it's got a factory fitted alarm/immobiliser apart from when we once had a jap import  where I had to fit an immobiliser & get a certificate just to get insurance! Personally I'd cancel & go elsewhere.

Adrian Flux & The AA are the best broker's I've used btw.

I can send you a pdf copy of the handbook, send me an email as Landyzone pm's don't do attachments.

Half way through my insurance so might just leave it as is until renewal and then go elsewhere, cheers guys

My year 2000 Disco 2 TD5 is insured with Fortis and I can't recommend them highly enough.
Recently I had my car broken into when in France. Fortunately, nothing was stolen because 'le voleur' came up against my Land Rover security and he couldn't get into the car, even after smashing the rear quarterlight. I had to have the glass repaired whilst in France and to pay 'upfront'. On my return, I contacted Fortis on the Monday - by post - and on the Friday morning I received a cheque to cover my outlay. That is what I call service.

I had a similar thing with SureTerm Direct.
I had to sign a declaration that the alarm/immobiliser is fitted and working.
They're supposed to be 4x4 specialists though and you'd assume that they'd know that these systems are fitted at manufacture.

tell 'em to go to hell mate insure disco with nrg who know what they're doing (even give me a classic policy for my 95 300 tdi very reasonable rates i paid in cash then ran out of broker in case they changed their mind!!!

Directline are idiots. **** em off. I used to be with them paying about 170 quid a year now with swinton paying 88 quid. The bozos that dl employ in their call centre are flamin useless.
