Freelander 1 Insurance for 2wd

Hi, can anyone recommend an insurer that isn't bothered by a 2wd Freelander mod i.e the propshaft has been removed? On the comparison sites I've tried it makes quite a difference, any help would be appreciated

Adrian Flux are good ones. You will need to take a few photos of the conversion. Mine has all three parts removed Props and VCU before I bought it. But worth talking to Adrian Flux. Do yo have any documents on the reason why removal as mine would be an expensive to reinstall due to funds.

When I got a quote for a 2WD freelander, I was quoted an extra £250 for the privilege of not having 4WD. It's generally cheaper to replace the VCU and keep 4WD rather than pay the extra premium for a less capable vehicle.

Nodge it all depends where you live also. I live in Manchester surrounding postcode that kick you in the nuts. When I was with Swinton Ins I got hammered with Mods on a Landrover 110 v8 3.5 1988. Even with a mod or not Postal codes count. I search around and Adrian Flux gave a much better offer. Now I accept my fault and stupidity when I bought my Freelander being 2wd but still postal code can still harm regardless in major cities.

Hi, thanks for all the replies, Adrian Flux were decent but in the end Lancaster were a bit cheaper, neither quote added that much for the 2wd mod. I do have every intention to go 4wd but I need to get the rear chassis welded ( there's a clunk when reversing) probably a refurb VCU and defo VCU support bearings .. and an MOT. So 2wd until I've got more cash before winter.

if you are getting a clunk when reversing have you check the centre diff support or even the bolt that goes into the chassis on the front drivers side rear sub frame

Hi, a local garage reckoned it was the rear subframe causing the clunk. I've found another 4 wheel drive specialist garage who'll sort it by going thru a whole in the boot floor, this seems to be the way to sort it.
