HI All , i had a prang last year , N A F , and the oter party has agreed to have the damag repaired , my question is can i repair the damage myself , and claim the money from the other insurance co, ? any info or where to look or personal experiance would be greatley recieved

The answer to the question is 'yes'. You can repair the damage yourself. You will however be met with strong resistance and the other side's insurance company will almost certainly insist that one of their nominated suppliers completes the work.

I have had this and ended up having to take them to Court to get the money out of them as damages rather than their insistence that they had to do the work. As a matter of law they are obliged to indemnify the other driver for the damages he has caused to you. They do not have a right to determine where the work is done, when it is done, or how it is done. Be slightly careful though as it might be said that there was a failure to mitigate your losses if your requirements are said to be unreasonable.

Most insurance companies will insist that the work is carried out to a known standard (bs), so that the work can be guarenteed to conform to certain build and safety standards, otherwise can refuse to insure it without an engineers report.
