Hi All,

I'm thinking of adding some 235/85R16 tyres on modular rims to my defender and I'm wondering if I need to tell the insurance about them?

I know its a size that will fit on the standard (6.5*16) rims but would like the extra width for the stability of the tyre.

Yes its a change from standard so you should tell them. They will try and put up your premium. From experience you can often get them to waive the premium increase if you talk to the right person.

235/85 16's and 265/75 16's were both factory fit tyre options,

May or may not make a difference but I would always tell them of any changes.

When I fitted alloys & lager tyres to my 90 it made no difference whatsoever, they are listed on my policy doccument along with all the other modifications but there was no change in premium.
