alright,

On my 1990 200 Tdi Defender 90, im having repeated problems with the front axle inner hub grease seal (the one that is meant to stop the bearing greases from coming out).

I changed the bearings about 3 months ago, along with the inner seal, before this, there was no leaking what so ever, it was all nice and dry. But since changing the bearings, the seal repeatedly leaks grease, and therefore throws it all over the disc and mud shield.

I have changed the seal again, i made 100% sure the seal was in square, and that the lip bit was level with the back of the hub, but yet again, after drving it to work and back today, grease has re-appeared all over the brake disc and mud shield.

I checked that there was no scoring or any marks on the stub axle, so im really confused as to why this is happening. I changed the passenger side at the same time, and that is fine, nice and sealed.

Any help and advise would be appreciated

Thanks

Joe

how much grease are you putting in there has to be air space ,and which way round did you fit them for some reason they seem to confuse alot of people ,the hollow c section toward bearing the rubber lips to stub axle

i put a fair amount in, but left some space for it to 'breathe' as if were. yes, put the seal in the right way, with the hollow C section towards the bearings, and the 'lip' towards the stub axle, tapped it in until the lip was level with the rear of the hub. when i removed the first leaking seal, it had a rip in it. Ive changed a fair few of these in my time, on freinds and families landys, all of which have been fine. i really dont know whats going wrong with this one.
