I have a Tdi 300 installed in my 110.

About one year ago there was a loud clicking noise from the injector pump but the car drove normally. After 4 weeks the noise disappeared.

It would re-appear occaisonally for a couple of days and then fade away.

Last week the noise came back with a vengence and I took the 110 to a injection pump specialist. He listened to the noise and said that there could be an air trap in the pump. He recommended that I should check the fuel pump and change the filter. If the noise persisted the injection pump would have to come off....

During all this time the engine is running well and there is no loss of power or any other adverse behaviour from the engine.

Has anyone else ever had such similiar problem?

clicking = vacuum pump. 300s are renouned for vacuum pump failure.

when it next clicks, pull over and get your head under the bonnet, you should be able to feel the pump knocking when it clicks. Im surprised you have not noticed a difference in the braking performance.

I have been through 2 on my defender (one was faulty though).

Well - it was not the vaccum pump. It was the fuel injector pump which was dodgy. I replaced it with a rebuilt unit and the noise stopped and the damn car actually goes faster...

Still have not figured out why the old injector pump made that tapped noise......
