Hi all, just done a little conversion on a TDi300 and thought it might interest y'all. :D

I recently bought another TDi300 for my wife. As we live in France I had to change the headlights from RHD to LHD. I checked out the prices from Paddocks and Disco2 (pre-facelift) LHD lights were cheaper and they look the same size/fitting - so I bought a pair. They fitted perfectly.

It makes the vehicle look nicer, imo, but more importantly the quality of lighting is better also. The beam pattern is better controlled and focussed, such that I don't feel the same need to install driving lamps.

I also included Xenon H4 bulbs + 501's in the change - £4.50.

Cheers all Merry Christmas
Dave

this sounds interesting... An improvement at low cost is always welcome!

I will search around here for some Disco 2 lights and will decide whether I find they more suitable than my original lighting.

Tnx for your tip!

Rgds,

Robert

You got a picture? I wanna know what this looks like :p

I included a piccie but the sun made it difficult so they don't show up that well.

The black background off the D2 lights blends really well with the radiator grille and in the flesh they look great.

with the extra heat off them xenons could the lenses crack
when hit with water, seen it happen on defenders,or is
the head light area big enough to keep them cool.

Xenon bulbs use a different gas to standard bulbs therefore run cooler.

Hiya Karlo, I'm feeling a bit stupid now. I started off this thread with the idea of sharing my experience of Disco2 lights on a Disco1, to improve night driving.

What I have found is that nearly everyone else has already done this and they all have better pictures (before and after in your case) than mine.

I'll get me coat..........................................

Which you've done brilliantly ... ;)

Made me look at my headlights in a whole new way ... the D2 lights are also mostly friggin' cheaper!!

Thanks.

You're all very kind and tactfull guys, I appreciate it.

But the D2 lights DO make a contribution to night driving - honest:eek:

:violent: :fighting2: :deadhorse:

Just gratuitous use of some new smilies - sad, yes, but I still like 'em !!!

Dave, I have been looking to do it for a while but only just got the lights @ the right price, my personal thoughts are that the 300 lights are brighter than the TD5 ones & my intention is to fit xenon bulbs, phillips xtreme seem to have come top in the test I saw Lightbulb test | Products | Auto Express.

I just did the pic in photoshop its quite basic to do, Early TD5 lights are a straight swop and done in about 30 seconds, I also renewed the crap H4 plugs while i was at it.
