That is no doubt the Sync issue between the BeCM and the Engine ECU....

The two need to talk to eachother and the sync code stored in both needs to match before the BeCM will allow the Engine ECU to start the engine.....

The Petrol models have a passion for losing sync readily, whereas the Diesel is rarer.

You can re-sync useing a BlackBox Solutions Syncmate (about £90 odd) or a diagnostic computer.....

Try sending a Private Message to Mozz Smith (Member on here) as he has had some luck with getting cars to repsond without the syncmate.....so you never know....

thanks for sugestions
spoken to blackbox people, not the sort of thing there kit will sort out, tried to message mozz, not good at this site, think I have done it
no one really seems to understand this system

if any one can help

Ehhhh....???

Blackbox make the Syncmate....that re-syncs the BeCM to the Engine ECU.....

The EKA code is used mainly if the fob battery is flat or the BeCM doesn't get a 'correct' code from the rolling code system from the Fob.....so you have to EKA to let the BeCM know you are using the right key....

The BeCM then checks the Engine ECU is the correct one by checking for the sync code...if they match, the car starts...if they don't it won't....

If you have entered the EKA and it has been confirmed by the flashing lights, but the engine still won't start more than likely it is the BeCM to ECU sync....which is what the Syncmate is used for.....

From their site.....
The BeCM Sync-Mate solves an increasingly common problem of P38 Range Rovers (95 to 2002) being left stranded because the BeCM, in effect, forgets the immobiliser code it needs send to the EMS (engine management system) for it to start the engine.

Previously when this happened, there used to be only two ways to get moving again: The first was to call out a garage with a diagnostic tool, like our Faultmate MSV-2, to reset the system and then pay the mechanic a "call out" fee for approximately 2 minutes work. This will fix the problem : until the next time.

The second way is to fit a new BeCM which will cost about 600 including programming and fitting. As time goes on, this method appears not to always totally fix the fault. To cut costs, we have heard that the manufacturer is now providing only exchange re-furbished BeCMs. However they do not always replace the memory part of the unit if it is still appears to be working satisfactorily. Six months down the line after you have bought your replacement BeCM you could still find yourself with the same problem, and although the Part would be under warranty, you are still stuck.

But now there is a third way! The BeCM Sync-Mate. Availiable for all three Engine Management types (Click Here for help to identify yours). Within a minute your BeCM will be automatically resynchronised with the engine management system and you will be on your way.

To re-synchronise your BeCM, you simply plug the BeCM Sync-Mate in and it resets the BeCM for you. No fuss, no palaver and more importantly, no costly call out fee just for two minutes work.

When it has finished working, it lets you know what it has done. With intelligent use of a high intensity flashing LED, the BeCM Sync-Mate will inform the user that the BeCM: Is already synchronised, or it is has been re-synchronised. Finally it could also inform you that there has been a communication error - in which case it will then also tell you the cause of that error.

If you enter EKA code three times incorrectly you will have to wait before you can try again. To avoid this simply open and close a door after second fail and you get three more goes and no wait. Just open door after each second fail and you can play with it all day.

spoke to guys at sync mate, they didn't seem to think it will do it because the doors are not locking/unlocking with central locking. thought there advert seems to say it will do the trick, but not, even he couldn't help

Not Unlocking or Locking on the button or on the key blade???

Helps to have all the info at the start o the thread!!

Hi deanbrandon, sounds like you have exactly the same problem that I had 3 weeks ago. I have a syncmate but that didn't do any good so after I tried everything else I had the immobiliser facility removed from the ECU and sent the BeCM off and had the immobiliser disabled. Got it back yesterday, doors all unlocked and engine started first time, have to lock/unlock with key now but I can live with that at least I can use the car now with a bit of certainty and I can use other anti theft measures. Hope this helps you.

It is an Immobiliser fault you have.

Nothing to do with the becm/ecu sync. The becm is in an alarned state.
If the indicators or sidelights are flashing on the key turn, & the known EKA isn't working, then your becm is definately alarmed, & will need to be removed.
We can sort that out for you if no joy with Mozz.

still no luck, Mozz is being fantastic, trying to help, any one got diagnostic gear / syncmate in Aldershot area and could help

There's no diagnostics on that will get you going.

Your vehicle don't need a sync-mate. It's not a sync problem.

Your vehicle is in a stage 2 security lockout. In simple terms, your becm has closed down, so to speak. No diagnostics on this planet will communicate with the becm on the vehicle.
You're only in aldershot, remove the becm & bring it to me in Brighton, or send it by courier, & then I'll can sort it out for you.
