Hi all,
Got an interesting issue with my 2000MY TD5 at present. Pulled onto a Morrison's forecourt to fill up and while waiting in the queue to get on the pumps I switched the engine off. When trying to start again....nothing. All lights on but no fuel pump running, no relays clicking. Obviously the immobilzer. Locked the doors, waited for the alarm to set and unlocked but still nothing. After a couple of minutes pushed it out of the queue and left it for a while and had a walk. About 15 minutes later started OK.
Trawled the internet and found that some fuel stations use 'Watchman' wireless fuel level monitors. Looked for the tech spec and found that they transmit up to 300 metres using 433MHz frequency, coincidentally the same frequency as my Key fob uses. Rest of the day car started fine.
Pulled on to a Waitrose petrol station and sat at pumps, same thing happened. Pushed car away from petrol station and car started fine.
Now most of the time I wait for glowplug light to go out, turn key (nothing happens) let key return to position II and then immediately turn to start position again and it starts.
Has anybody else had this problem or use this double key turn technique to start their car?
Also recently found out that 'Delphi' mobile phone masts can cause the same problem for DII. I haven't looked into this yet.If I find out what these are I'll add to this post later.
Regards

MY2000 subaru impreza's suffer the same issue mate. My mates subaru wont start or even unlock in certain places. Push 100yds down the road and its fine

Never had a problem and lots of stuff use 433MHz

But then you only transmit on that frequence when locking/unlocking so if u could do that then there's not a problem at the fuel pumps. the presence of your key near the 'exciter ring' around the ignition switch should remobilise the engine.

I'm with Discool on this ... if the red led doesnt flash to indicate immobilised car IMO it's an ignition switch or main relay issue and the pushing away trick is a coincidence.... though if the led flashes then it might be due to interference but in this case the remote fails ...se point 5 in this bulletin and consider 433 instead of 315 http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uplo...odule_troubleshooting_and_upgrade8610nasf.pdf the problem is the same regerdless of NAS or EU freq.

Thanks for the replies. I read last night after trawling the net about the problems with Subaru's on their forums. No problem with the remote plip, that always works. How does the key fob communicate with the exciter ring then? Does that use 433MHz or what?

Found a site with about a dozen different things which affect Subaru's.

Why does my method of turning the key to start and getting no response followed by a quick return to position II and back to start position always work?

It's quite common for ignition switch/contact or relay issues... IMO forget about freqeuencyes, subaru's, fobs, remobilisation coils, etc.... as long as the red LED doesnt flash it's not immobilised
