I am getting the ignition key warning...
Message tells me the key is in when I turn ignition off - back one step on the key.
I turn it back two more steps to remove key and message goes. Then when I open a door the ignition key message comes back on and car beeps. Message goes off after about 15 second delay. Should this sequence of events occur?
Have to lock door manually-key fob won't work as car thinks key is in.
I have tried the graphite powder and electrical contact cleaner with nil improvement.
Do I need to replace the key barrel and if so where can I get one.is it a straightforward swap if I keep my fob?
I am still struggling to find a drivers side exhaust manifold.any ideas- if I can't find one is it feasible to repair / weld mine?
I need to fix this as car sometimes stalls on low revs.
Thanks in advance.

Don't think the cold weather helps Either.mine has just started doing it I have not got spray yet , but I have noticed in the morning the ignition barrel is stiffer than when the car has had a proper warm up inside .

Thanks,
I've already done those things except more graphite.
I will try it again...
How long should i leave contact cleaner take to dry in barrel.

Cheers

Must be one of those millennium buggery things. Mine has started doing it over the past week or so.

G~

Ok i will have to presume its a petrol as you have said drivers side although the diesel is on that side too ! Our sponsor emmots has some as I've just seen them on ebay if not ebay has loads .

Lol
Sorry defender, was referring to earlier thread.
Got a few issues with noise when cold and now rough running/stalling on low revs.
Checked exhaust manifold as advised on drivers side to find it leaks on last joint and the concertina section. Can't find replacement, that's what I referred to...

Mine is a petrol 4.0.
It's a 2001 model.
I tried google and eBay and all I got was gaskets loads of them...
Must have had bad filters set?
Also looked on Emmotts web site n there weren't any listed.
Will try again.

I've got same problem on drivers side manifold. Small hole in the flexi bit. Sure I did it when removing heads for gasket change. I'm gonna have a go at rewelding it first. Done a temp repair with one of those metal exhaust repair straps with some exhaust putty (I left the horrible heat shields off). Hopefully it will last until some warmer weather arrives.

If I can't find one I will have to try weld mine.
Read an article on someone who had this done by a pro welder but could not refit due to 3mm distortion on one flange , presumably due to heat...
A bit surprised I can't find one as it seems to be a common problem-thought there'd be an established after market...

Tried lots more contact cleaner, blasted with air line and tried more graphite but still get "ignition key in" message when door opened...

Barrel looks to ping out ok with key.

Problem must be more then just sticking.

Has anyone actually replaced the barrel?

Cheers,
