ignition barrel removal

Hi all my 2008 vogue ignition switch has finally given up the ghost, ive bought a new switch but to remove the old barrel I need a special tool that fits down a small hole in the side of the barrel, can I make 1? if so what does it consist of? ive seen a picture of 1 and it looks like a very thin rod you just poke in the hole to release the barrel, I was wondering if its metal or plastic in case of an electrical short when inserting it, any help appreciated as always

If you are removing the switch, you should disconnect battery in anycase!

good point!!! any idea on the tool?

Have a look at your new one, is it just a small plunger that locks the switch in?

I suspect he has not got a new barrel, just the switch bit on the end. Hurry up and bugger of to the Canaries will you

It cannot come quick enough for me !! I wouldn't be here at all but the Boss gets bored out there and misses the grandkids. And by the way I suspect he has not got a new barrel as well. But whatever he's got he could look at it, it may give him a clue
