Hi,

I'm looking at a 1991 (200tdi) 110 with 130k and it may need the following addressed. Currently SORN.
This is all new to me so I need advice please!

Welding to the rear outrigger drivers side (or replace)
New rear half of exhaust
Bottom of passenger door needs a little welding
Small amount of rust on the bulkhead on the strip above the vent
How much would this work likely cost and anyone know a good mechanic/body shop in NI (Antrim/Down).

Would all of this have to be done to get an MOT?

I am very grateful for all help and advice!!

Tom
PS. Thanks for sharing some great rebuilds on the forum.

Door wouldn't need doing unless it's flapping about.....more than they all do

Outrigger and exhaust definitely.

Bulkhead is the most worrying. They're structural and tend to rot from the inside and repairs around the vents aren't easy.

Watch out for body filler

An outrigger costs about £15.00, rear exhaust £100-150. Minor welding of door diddly. Bulkhead rust irrelevant for now but treat it anyway. So that's not a lot. What's more relevant is how long it's been SORN. Chances are that there will be other issues if its been lying for long.

I'm trying to find someone in Co Down or nearby that could take a look and make someone to do the fixes.
Thanks for input.......Tom

SORN for 5 yrs but in constant use on private property and parked on slab. Thanks Tom

I would walk away unless they are almost giving it away. IMO, if they've put it on a SORN, its because they can't be bothered to do the repairs/maintenance to keep it road legal. You could cause quite a few issues on a vehicle over 5 years of that sort of neglect.

For less than fifty quid you may as well borrow it for a couple of hours and drive it down to the MOT garage yourself. You will get a nice list of things to do.
