Hi all I'm new to the site and looking for advice please
I have a 2005 freelander 1 td4 auto with 130k on it
The issue is I park the truck up and leave it overnight and then go to drive it it seams like something has ceased at the back end I put it in drive and go to pull off it feels like something is dragging at the back end it will move off slowly but then feels like it's rubbing as I get to 5-10 mph it starts to feel like it's catching/ notching on something then it will start rubbing again and it thuds slowly gets faster and then a bigger thud and it ok and runs normally

I have had the brakes checked and rebuilt on the back because i thought it was this but it is no diiferent since so I'm a little confused
Any advice would be great
Thanks mike

Parking brake cables are a known weakness on these, normally going sticky keeping the brakes on.
If you don't use the parking brake, does the problem occur?

Hi thanks for your reply I've just had the back shoes renewed as I thought it was that but no different .... it's auto so I put it in park and don't apply the handbrake most of the time and it still does it or do you mean put it in neutral and put the handbrake on ?
Mike

I haven't tried not putting it in neutral so I guess that would be a good way to start I'd just never thought of it

As per my reply to your personal message sounds like handbrake mech is seized.

Did you have it all removed and freed up with new shoes ??

Hi yes the brake shoes were taken off and freed off replaced some of the parts and grease and put back together by a mechanic so don't think it would be that

I've seen them put back together incorrectly, which resulted in strange brake behaviour.
However if you're not using the parking brake, then it's weird it sticking on. Is it definitely the rear causing the issue?

+1 on not re-assembled correctly. The adjuster is supposed to operate when using the foot brake, so that might be sticking ?
