How many litres of Waxoyl...............?

I bought my 2003 D2 TD5 in September 2012 from it's one owner - my neighbour of thirty yards away - and it had been regularly waxoyled undeneath.

By now (April 2014) the covering had become a little thin and entirely washed away in places, so, it was time to do it again properly on a ramp.

How much Waxoyl did I use?
3 x 5litre cans of Black Waxoyl and and a half full can containing about 2 - 3 litres.

1 x 5litre can of clear Waxoyl for the inner chassis sections and another half full can with 2 - 3 litres.

Is that about right?
The cans were put in a Baby Burco water heater at half heat until the Waxoyl was hot and runny and applied with about 60psi from a schutz gun with homemade nozzles and extension lances.

Did I use enough?

you can only use what you used! i would say plenty, hardest part getting right into all the nooks and cranny's, mine will be getting hoisted up in july, annual session, have alook at my pics!!

i prefer thinning it down with white spirit, it seems to spray better

i know what you mean! but when warmed up it sprays out of a shultz gun ok, then when it solidify's it will be thicker! as getting more in rather than a coat of thin waxoyl, that's my theory anyway

I find that the Dinitrol products are far superior to Waxoyl.

IMO to waxoly properly it needs to be done with an air pressure gun and on a ramp,I reckon that is the only way to you can see to get into the nooks and crannys etc.
My local spanner man checks every time its due a service and my chassis has to be one of the best around,he says so anyway,he charges me around £30.00 to do this and at that price its a no brainer,saves crawling around on yer back with stuff dripping in your eyes.

I agree, it penetrates better, I thin and then heat on a gas burner (Feck H&S) and spray several hot thin coats. It leaches into joints that the thick stuff just coats over

I did this with my last car, most of its age had rusty wheel arches, mine just had a bent floor pan, doors, pillars, but no rust.

This summer I will do my TD5

+1 on hot thin coats. I also add in any surplus engine oil I have (or old stuff).
It does get into joints better and drys to a kind of semi dry varnish like finish. I think putting it on straight, hot or not, just lies on top of chassis like a skin that is easily peeled off.
