Yes, I know - thats why I said that US version of EU cars are likely to have lower overall ratings to prevent them towing larger trailers that might have too high a nose weight.
Freelander can only take 75kgs (I think its 75?) vertically on the hitch, I would guess a trailer like that has over 75kgs on the nose unladen, never mind with a car on it.
If the towcar can take the noseweight as US pickups etc easily can, its actually very stable at speed. The short rear overhang of the trailer greatly reduces the pendulum effect of sideways forces so much less snaking.
EU style trailers with the wheels in the middle are inherently less stable at speed, but lighter on our smaller towcars.

Bit more engineering finesse to the British way, old boy! Never humour the colonials too much!
Well set up Ifor works well for me, and has done for over thirty years. Not the same trailer!

The phrase sledgehammer to smash a nut springs to mind when I look at a lot of American motors. The one thing I do like is the idea of a large low tuned and stressed engine, instead of our smaller, higher revving ones. Concept kind of crosses over into the v8 Disco, excellent for towing.
Love my Ifors, 2 at the moment, cattle box and flatbed. had quite a few others. Have you posted yours in the trailer fred?

Mine was cheap as chips, and been pretty much 100% reliable. Battery packed up once, another time a terminal came loose. Other than that, neverlaid a spanner on it other than oil and trans fluid change.Sorry guys your not going to like this.

We are still in England and I for one are glad that people use Lbs. and ounces if get to me when people on the tv say Km and we drive in MPH we were not brought up on the metric and being as it is a Europe thing I will not use it.and the Freelander was and still is made in England

Thanks for the replies guys, I've been afk far a couple of days. We currently have a small old lorry but I would like to get rid before it dies
Just to confirm, An Ivor Williams 510 horse box is 1000kg unladen.
The horses are both over 17 hands so guessing around 500kg each therefore total weight around 2000kg or 2 metric tons.
For the most part journeys would be under 20 miles but sometimes a lot further.
Interesting to hear the TD4 would struggle with so much weight, I wouldn't worry if it were only occasional use but towing that much weight every week would probably kill it.
I guess I will need to think again
BTW, afk = away from keyboard.
Just get a Toyota to tow with and a TD4 for playdays ...

I have a Skoda Octavia company car and a MGF to play with.
6 vehicles with one a 6 ton lorry is way to many.
