Greetings, dear company. Finally, I can say with a clear conscience that the car is mine - yesterday I issued all the necessary documents. How it all started: I wanted a "station wagon" in my garage. A little all-terrain vehicle, a little urban, and hitching a trailer, you can also take the child to school and eventually let the wife drive (although she learned on a manual transmission, she still prefers an automatic) I was considering two options - Opel Frontera B sport 2.2 or Land Rover Freelander 1 2.0 Td4. Automatic transmission is mandatory. I leisurely reviewed the offers on the trading platforms and planned to buy no earlier than the summer, but, as always, the right offer appeared, not far from me and at an acceptable price. Among the stated shortcomings is a non-working automatic transmission Therefore, the car was immediately sent to a tow truck from the seller to repair the gearbox. The repairman gave an approximate price for the repair of this box from 35 to 70 thousand ₴ (760 - 1520 £), which in principle suited him. me because I bought the car quite cheaply ($3000 = approx £2475) and even at those prices the car is still the best deal on the market. To date, I know for sure: all clutches have been replaced, the brake belt has been replaced, and new oil has been filled. The gearbox is installed on the car and the masters are not satisfied with its work, so they are in no hurry to give my car away - they are figuring out what is the matter I look forward to the completion of the work so that I can take a closer look at my purchase.

Lot of money for a non-runner.

But I suppose its what ever the value is local to you.

Freelanders cost more here than UK - but less than Ukraine it appears.

I hope it works out well for you. You should see if you can get a set of roof rails/cage imported from the UK - I think the 3 door looks so much better with them installed. Presumably the cross pieces can be removed for shipping. Make sure you get all the fittings (bolts etc) if you do.

Yes, you are right, the prices in Ukraine are quite high due to the high customs duty. We have a normal price for such a Freelander in good condition from 5.5 to 7 thousand dollars. Yes, I also like the rails on the three-door version) especially since I have a small boat (3.2 meters) that I can transport on the roof. So yes, I will leisurely look for railings. In addition, I am leisurely looking for leather seats (or combined leather) and while I am thinking whether I need it?) But first I will take the car for repair and based on how much it will cost me, I will consider buying accessories. In addition, one more set of original wheels (one for summer tires, the other for winter tires) and, in fact, the tire itself, because the one installed now is garbage, will not be superfluous.

Good day, dear company. since my car is still in the workshop, so I don't have much to write yet. As for the repair of the gearbox, I know the order of things only from the words of the master (a report with all receipts will need to be requested) .Replaced clutches, replaced brake band, diagnosed hydraulic unit and solenoids. But the car still refused to drive normally. There are certain problems with the control unit, a specialist is dealing with it.
But I still plan a detailed inspection of the car and rejection. From what I saw - critical wear of the front tire (although the rear is not in the best condition) and especially worn edges, which may indicate a malfunctioning clutch or a broken suspension. according to the seller, the four-wheel drive works (it is not known how) and the suspension was repaired. By the way, I should note that when I came to the workshop (I was bringing a new crankshaft oil seal), I noticed that there was a new stabilizer link and new brake pads (discs, however, are old and worn). I am thinking about a good acoustic system in the car. I doubt that I have Harman/Kardon
I would like to. Who has such acoustics, write back - is it worth bothering with the search for components and installed?

I noticed that my spare wheel is R15, although the rest of the wheels are 16 inches. is it like that for everyone or is it just me so "lucky"?) I'm planning to replace the seats with combined leather, but they won't pay for them on the secondary market (discounts), so I'm thinking of sending it to the workshop to have new, combined covers sewn .. before that, it wouldn't hurt to give the car to a dry cleaner because the interior is very smoky.
I will be grateful for comments and advice. Best regards.

My immediate concern would be with the 4wd… you make mention of odd wear on tyres, and an odd-sized spare wheel (which should be the same).
Mis-matched tyres are a recipe for disaster on the FL1 with the VCU (the part that controls the 4wd system). Pay close attention to this before investing lots of money, if that is important to you.

Good luck !

Yes, I think for the first time, what I will do when I pick up the car - I will do a test for VCU.

It is quite likely that she is either dead or dying. This is not a problem of just additional costs. Is there a way to check the condition of the IRD without removing it from the car?

Oh, yes, until I remembered - how do I to determine a complete set of my car, which one is it (HSE, SE or something like that)? What interesting things have your sat ? For example, I have an audio control panel on the steering wheel and cruise control. There are also fog lights (the truth is, only one, the other was probably twisted by stumps). Can you find fog lights on F1? Maybe they are suitable from something, since it is a little rare.

By the way, my bumpers and plastic on the arches are painted in the color of the body. Was it like this on these cars or is it a work of art of some garage genius?

You look to be running before you are walking.

There are lots of issues to work through before you consider sound systems!

For kick off, have a read of this - you only need to read the first post to start with, although the thread is interesting and #19 is very important to...

https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/tests-new-freelander-1-owners-should-do-on-their-car.312863/

There is a video in the 1st post that shows you how to test the VCU, unfortunately @Hippo has changed the settings on his videos' so I'll update it at some time to use a more friendly video.

You really really must have matching wheels and tyres on the car - if they don't match, the VCU will kick in and trash your IRD. The VCU needs to work.

TBH, I would have simply bought a 2nd hand gearbox from somewhere in the UK and get it shipped. I'm sure it would work out not more expensive than rebuilding your one and would have been quicker and more reliable. Same with VCU, get one from Bell Engineering. Hopefully you can get things shipped there by courier. If shipping is difficult, maybe drive to UK and pick the bits up! Or have them shipped to a garage that can be shipped to easily/cheaper (Germany/Poland?) and drive to there. I have no idea what your borders are like at the moment - living here in NZ, our borders were closed to people for a couple of years - not for war, but medical ideology over Covid.

… maybe have a chat to freelanderspecialist.com. They are a (legitimate) specialist Freelander garage here in UK. When I was there having my VCU and bearings done much earlier this year, they were talking about trips they were making to Ukraine, to donate FL’s for use by your military. I’m sure they could arrange shipping of any parts you might need for you - and I’m also sure you could give them a call to discuss what you might need and where to start.

You look to be running before you are walking.
That is realy so) I'm looking forward to taking the car from the automatic transmission repair shop and taking a good look at it. about once a year I have an "aggravation" - the need for an old "trough" to then heroically repair it. (my last project - Citroen BX was successfully restored and sold) But while I am bedridden due to an injury, there is nothing left but to form plans and gather advice.

For kick off, have a read of this
I am sincerely grateful to you for the work done, it is important. I have already read your videos and descriptions.

Yes, I already understood that and, I think, a set of new wheels is waiting for the car. And maybe not one. Looked at a set of original wheels on a Freelander (only £80) 16 inches for the convenience of changing wheels winter / summer

would have simply bought a 2nd hand gearbox
also had thoughts about the second-hand gearbox... and we have them, there is no need to spend money on delivery, but I am convinced that this is buying a cat in a bag. This gearbox may turn out to be the same as mine only a day before the breakdown. No guarantees. I'd better invest a little more money and be sure that everything is fine with it (masters give a guarantee)
Same with VCU
To begin with, I will conduct a test according to your method and it will be visible there. There is no need to send VCUs somewhere abroad - already in Ukraine they have been restored for a long time and successfully, by the way, relatively inexpensively.
I have no idea what your borders are like at the moment
Our borders are closed for men of military age. There are exceptions, but I don't fall under them, at least not yet. If I receive a temporary disability certificate, I will be able to travel.

Thank you for your attention. I hope to be able to tell you in more detail about the condition of my Freelander soon.

Thanks for the advice. when I get my car back and understand the order of work that lies ahead, I will probably do so - I will contact them for advice In principle, we have enough spare parts, and the same transfer box and rear-wheel drive gearbox are not uncommon on the secondary market and cost about £300, which is not an unaffordable amount. Yes, I hope that everything is fine with my units)

Friends, I urgently need advice, who knows - whether the ECU of the automatic transmission is interchangeableUHC000120 and UHC500120 ? UHC000120 was installed in the car and the mechanic said that they failed. I ordered an ECU in the secondary market, the seller assured me that they are what I need, but they have the number UHC 500120. Doubts are creeping in whether everything will be fine. the question is urgent, I will be grateful for the answers.

I’m certainly no expert on this (plenty on here that are), but Google says that UHC 500120 is from the V6 petrol model, so I would assume it is of no use in your TD4.

That's the question because these blocks are suitable for both KV6 and Td4. but I have not yet understood how they differ (with the program, of course) They say that the revolutions at which the gears are switched are different, but this is a statement of the "one old woman said" category

The TCM is dependent on engine type and year. I've got a TD4 TCM in my stash somewhere.
in any case, I will bet the one who will arrive (tomorrow evening), theoretically the car should go with him. And if there are any interruptions in the work, I will look for the one that was from the factory.
