Hi guys. I don't normally get onto the RR forum, but I have a question that hopefully you RR owning members will know.
I've been looking at potentially replacing my current Freelander 1 with an L322. I've been looking on various on line adverts so see what is about near me to see what's what.
I've come across a nice looking 57 plate TDV8 Vogue in black with 170K miles on it. It looks pretty straight and well looked after in the pictures I've seen. I've not actually looked at the vehicle myself yet. It does look good, and that's where the problem is. To me it seems to good for the money the seller is asking. It's up for just £4,000, which seems low, even for the mileage.
So do any of you experienced RR owner's think £4K is low for an L322 of this mileage and age.
Any guidance on this would be very helpful.
Cheer.

Can only look and see what they got
You always have the option to walk away. It might be that they know less than you about the value? Maybe they got tired of the running cost?
Maybe they heard a rattle and saw a big bill coming?
Maybe it a bag of poop that has never been serviced?
Maybe a new car on way and £4000 is the deposit or amount they need to pay for it?
If it no good walk away
Steve

Or in need of a quick sale, but my moto is if it feels wrong - it usually is!

Seems far too cheap for me. But you have to look at it I guess. If you can take some sort of diagnostics with you , they shouldn't object and if they do, walk away

I'm thinking of taking a look at the weekend, if I can find the time. Are there any particular areas I should be checking. I know the TDV8 is a larger version of the TDV6, with a couple of extra cylinders on the front, along with a timing chain conversion, replacing the TDV6 belt. For instance, do the TDV8 engines suffer from sudden crank failure, like the TDV6 does? Or does the gearbox have a limited life and so throw a wobbly the moment I give it a bit of a work out?
I've had D3 so am aware these expensive vehicles can bite, just when you least expect it.
From various reports I've read, the L322 is generally more reliable than the D3, especially where suspension components are concerned.
So what's your thoughts on reliability?

4k for a TDV8 is cheap, even an early TDV8..... Heck 4k is cheap for and early L322.......
There are a dozen L322s down in my part for the world for under £5K. Some are petrol V8s and some TD6. This is the cheapest TDV8 in the area though.

Turbos are a known weak spot on the TDV8 by all accounts.....Gearboxes on the later cars seems stronger - but service regularly....

Suspension can take a hammering on such a heavy car (not as heavy as the D3 - but she is still a big ar$3d girl) so bushes wear regularly too....

Electronics on the L322 is a weak point - the MOST system is not as prone to sudden hissy fits like the earlier CANbus in the early L322's.

Air Suspension issues are common, but well documented.....

Make sure everything works and remember the Range Rover buying godlen rule - Never, ever buy a Range Rover with a fault unless you appreciate the amount of time, money, heartache and frustration it could potentially cause. A Range Rover with a fault can empty even a heathly bank balance rapidly. Budget for Diagnostic gear like the Nanocom on the post 2005 models, the GAPDiagnostics IIDTool or Faultmate Extreme else you will be lining the pockets of the local dealer/indys regularly.

I hate pointing people to other ofrums, but in the spirit of helpfulness, try www.fullfatrr.co.uk as they are clued up on the later models and there issues....but remember, LandyZone is the best, most informative, most helpful and most responsive Land Rover Forum on the 'net.....

Thanks for taking the time to right that lot down. If I do get an L322, I'm well aware I'll need a diagnostic tool. I'd get the IID BT as I've had one already, when I had the D3. I only sold my D3 because I needed to free up some cash for some expensive house renovations. I was a bit miffed by the front lower wishbones failing annually. Otherwise the D3 was a good machine to own.
So I was hoping the FFRR would be a decent upgrade the more practical D3.

@Nodge68 Did the seller say something about his spam folder blocks ebay messages and give you his personal email to use?

I'm 99.9% sure it's one of those dodgy looking low priced ads that MUST be a scam.
I've posted on here about them.>>https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/scam.310604/

There are several vastly cheap Rangies on at the mo inc. the Sport and Evoques, and usually priced oddly like £4019.00 or similar.
Some even claim to be vehicle retailers with a business address, which are probably just robbed from an innocent business to boost people to believe the ad.

Definitely wrong so play safe and ignore them.

A TDv8 even at that mileage should be close to £9k.
£4k will maybe get you a 2004 TD6.

That's what I was thinking. Hence the reason for the post.
Oddly it's advertised as being very close to me, in an expensive area to live. I've not heard back from the seller, regarding viewing it. So I suspect it is some sort of scam. Unless the seller is clueless about it's value.

The Reg is coming up as having a current MOT but is currently SORN.

Is this the advert @Nodge68 ??????????
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-LAND...776554?hash=item3f7ef2bb6a:g:BJAAAOSwjk9ZPYS1

I am biting my tongue because if you think this ad is for real you ought to seriously have your head examined:( Sorry, I'm berating you but it's out of sincere concern.
ZERO feedback score
Description pasted from a build sheet

I've been perusing RR on ebay for the past year, these ads are very familiar to me now and I just ignore them because of the price and familiar dodginess.

My current steed I bought from a trader - for a snip considering I knew what it was!

He was a nice guy, his facilities were a little 'lack-lustre' but functional, he had a load of vehicles for sale in good condition - even a very nice Bentley Continental GT and a very smart looking BMW M6 which was to die for!

I purchased the vehicle at what could be considered half its market/correct value - he knew it was a 2000 BMW 7 Series E38 740i, advertised as such, a good description with details of MOT and Tax etc.....but he didn't know *what* 7'er he had.

What she actually is, is a BMW E38 740i Shadowline Sport.....in Titan Silver.....

Now there are loads of 740 'Sport' models advertised on sites and magazines etc....but few of them are *true* Sport models....yeah, bung the M Sports steering wheel on it, a set of staggered 18" M-Pars, rip out the seats and fit the full Contour Sports seats ....fine....but replacing the headlining, the high stall torque converter and the lower ratio rear diff is beyond most peoples efforts to disguise a standard 740 into a Sport and the cost to do so would be prohibitive, just to get a few extra sheckles on the asking price.

Now, mine does have the Anthracite headlining, the staggered M-Pars, full contour sports seats, the M Sport steering wheel....looking at the official build sheet from BMW which I asked my local dealer for, shows it also has the high stall torque converter and the lower ratio rear diff.....it also has the full Shadowline package and Alpina Sports suspension all from the factory....

In other words it is a true 740i Sport - worth twice as much as I paid for it.

I asked him about the headlining colour being different to the rest of the interior and he just shrugged and said he never noticed....obviously he didn't know what he had.

Whilst the girlfriend bemoaned me for not haggling the price down as far as I could have, I also knew what I was buying....and he didn't know what he was selling!

The point of my story - yes, on occasion you can get a fecking good deal if you know what you are looking for and what you are looking at.....so just cos its cheap doesn't necessarily mean it is a scam or 'dodgy'....just research your subject, research the vendor and trust your instincts - they are more correct than we give them credit for sometimes.....

Alas....on this occasion, I agree with @myfirstl322 I think this one is too good to be true and could well be a scam.....if you have had no reply from the seller by this stage, then walk from it.....ther eare plenty more L322's in the sea - maybe not as cheap for a TDV8, but many others worth considering!

If you are a gambler you must learn or rather delude yourself that you understand the form..

If you peruse ebay and in particular one marque you lust after then you very quickly learn the form, no ifs, no buts, those ads are BS.

They are not confined to RR though.

Oh total BS thats for sure - as I said at the bottom of my post, this one is for walking on by....I just said, sometimes you can get a genuine buy for a snip....just gotta know the 'form' as you say and know the marque you are after.
