Hiya, been without a Disco for 6 months or so but looking to buy another over here in Spain. Looking at a '98 300 TDi - bit posh, got an airbag!:D Fairly happy with it except I thought that the steering seemed a bit stiff - didn't centre itself as quick as I felt it should. So you could point it in any direction and it was slow to straighten up - any thoughts on that anyone, something I should worry about or squirt WD40 on?:) Apart from that I felt it drove well.

Cheers

Rich

Hello Richy baby, welcome back - you HAVE been missed (better not say why, tho'!!)

Re the steering, it could be:

1. Low front tyre pressures;
2. Seized u/j's in the short steering shaft between the 'box and the steering wheel;
3. Someone has overly-adjusted the steering play in the 'box.

Those are just a few ideas that came to mind as I wanted to reply quickly, you sounded like you needed a hug !!!!!!

It happens when the steering box is too "adjusted" .......it might have had some lash and the owner overtightened the adjuster on the steering box.....look at the adjuster U might see if it was recently "troubled"

....meanwhile the WD40 on the universal joint is a good ideea.

I was writing in the same time with thebiglad that's why U see that idea twice

Aw, mange tout Dave, mange tout! Just wanted to have some reassurance that there probably wasn't a mega problem here - you know the price of cars over hereabouts! None of yer £500 stuff here, there are 1990 200TDi's going for 5k euros, it's mad!
Cheers SF too! At the mo, the Spanish seller (a dealer) seems to be completely not bovvered. I drove about 170 odd miles to see the car, and the same back but he can't be arsed to call me to arrange the sale! Pfffff! Best one I can find at the mo though so I'm quite keen. Missing the old shed nearly as much as you big fella! You still got all them empty 5 litre ice cream tubs in yer kitchen....you know, "for oil changes"! :D:D:D:D I just wonder where all that ice cream goes!:p

Cheers!

Hi Rich, unfortunately I think we both know who ate all the pies sorry Ice Cream? That'd be me then.

Things who are good. We currently have 1 x TDi 300 3 door that Wendy runsd around in and I have 2 x TD5 - yes 2, so it's not just ice cream then.

Have you not considored flying back to "the old country to get one - that's where I get mine from.

Cheers

Oi, leave some of them pies for me! Yep have considered getting one from UK but it's really difficult to import a car into Spain - costs a fortune in taxes, duties, replating etc. unless you bring one when you first move here, then it's only about 1200euros! That plus the time and expense of the journey makes it not worthwhile. Guess you don't have that problem in France?

For me to bring one into France it is new headlights (LHD) plus various bits of paperwork so a total of perhaps 500 euros - if over 10yrs old - or about 700 if under 10yrs.
