Hi guys,
My issue of the week that I come to this hallowed ground to request an audience.

I need to fit some bulkhead repair panels but tome is of the essence, as I'm working outside on the driveway. Anyone got any ideas on how long the job can take for a novice?
Also, I need to repair some holes in my chassis on the rear crossmember. I know that 3pm steel plate
is the best to use, but just how big a hole can I repair safely? It's about the 30mm in diameter.

try 3am plate its better

On the very rear of the chassis, maybe 100mm front the end of the rail the the rear attaches to. I would post a picture but it's chugging dark out there at the mo!

so it's on the outside of the chassis rails rather than between them? Do you mean it's on the rear most face of the crossmember or on the side that faces towards the front of the landy?

Um, I don't think I'm describing myself very well. If you look at the rear if the landy, it's the rail on the right hand side, and the hole is on the bottom of the rail. It's the swoopy bit before the very rear.

Going slightly off topic, I had to check out all my brakes today ( front offside is squeeking like a horny mouse ) After the job was done, I wanted to take her for a spin around the block to see if I had cured my issues. Only thing is, she hasn't run for about 3-4 weeks. With some trepidation I turned the ignition, expecting to be greeted by the sound of a shagged battery, but no! Started on half a turn! What a beast! Reliablilty issues in LR? NEVER!!:D:D:D

When you say "novice" and "bulkhead repair" in the same paragraph:eek:Can you weld:confused:

Yeah, when I left school I worked at a Blacksmiths workshop for a year, that was a while ago, but I'm pretty sure I can remember the basics. I think that I lump of offcut steel will be used to get my runs back up to scratch.

well thats a start. Get your self some of the new ultra thin cutting blades for your grinder, they are great for getting a good clean straight cut. I've renewed my door pillars but not top corners like yours needs. Give your pillars a good look at bottom as they rot from inside out. As well doing it all in a oner. Would you not consider replacement bulkhead. I seen a rust free one in a scrappy up here not long ago. Guy asked for £200 and i think i could have got it down a good bit. Kicking myself now for not takin it.

I have some fairly restrictive space issues, so I can't afford to replace the major components, mainly the bulkhead and or chassis. I would love to be able to rebuild on a brand spanking galvanised chassis. One day I'll have a workshop to make that smug bastard Mark Evans jealous!!

Aye, me too. When ma lottery comes up:D. He turns out some crackin stuff tho. As for us poor feckers, we just do the best we can. You will have to strip your dash out tho and hopefully there is no hidden horrors behind it. when its done and before rebuild, get as much protection on it (galvafroid primer) and in it (waxoil) as you can. Think it through and take your time. Good luck mate.

Never heard of Galvafroid primer, where can I get hold of that then? I had to remove an old cassette player not long after I bought it, found 3 rounds of live ammunition floating around the terminals. Luckily the armed response units not too far away! After that, I'm ready for anything.
I am looking to replace the dash though, as mine has cracks around the instrument panel. Any ideas where I can find one?
