Bloody ell the case has more **** in it then mine did when we changed the timing belt.....My puleys wernt wobbling like that though hehehehehe

You Lucky Lucky Bastid!!
Shouldn't think that belt would have lasted much longer. Even if it didn't snap it would have jumped some teeth and there goes your pushrods.

I wonder if there's been some dodgy manufacturing going on. I've been out to several vehicles in the last couple of weeks with tensioner pulleys faulty. We aren't just talking about one manufacturer though. I've been out to 2 vw transporters, A nissan serena, a ford transit and a vauxhall astra.

Think its more to do with dodgy driving than dodgy manufacturing, that an total lack of maintenance, loads of abuse and when it breaks I know what to fix mentality.

Still in this case I got away with it, an the loose idler pully was like that before I released the tensioner :eek:

Spose better get a new belt kit for it today

someting to be said for not leaving your wading plugs in...

My Cambelt snapped on my 300, when I got to open the timing case, about 1/2 pint of dirty water came out... the timing belt and tensioners were less than a year old when they went!

if you imagine what all that water was doing sloshing about in the timing case while the engine was running, getting into all the bearings and gears!

not sure on the others but i know Vauxhall had a massive problem with the 1.6/1.8/2.0 engines fitted to their cars after 1998. the tensioner and idler pulleys had some dodgy plastic parts that would break down and snap after a while (somewhere between 20k and 70k miles). they never recalled anything and just advised that tensioners and pulleys be changed with the cambelt at the recommended interval!! the older engines had all metal tensioners and pulleys so never suffered from this problem, and dunno if the new pulleys are still plastic or not?
