As above the orange hill descent warning light has appeared on its own what's the likely cause ? Also will a generic code reader work on a 1999 td5 or does it need to be more specialised ?
Thanks

Sorry discovery td5, 1999. Definitely hill descent, picture of disco pointing downhill on a slope and button on dash etc

1. Generic code reader will not work on D2
2. that HDC alone is a specific code for "brake lamps relay" failure...this issue is quite complicated... it could be a wiring or even ECU problem aswell which you'll know only by exclusion:( ...unfortunately this relay is built in the interior fusebox's(IDM's) circuit and can not be replaced as a separate part. it's named also HDC relay cos it works the brakes only in HDC mode it has nothing to do with normal brakeing...read the fault code with dedicated tester(nanocom or hawkeye) to make sure than you'll decide ...if you want everything to work as it should an you can afford a spare fusebox then replace it or you can disable the HDC with tester and forget about this enhancement. I digged deep this issue, i had a post on it here too(you can see there in the table the second fault) http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/diagrams-vs-reality-mystery-am-i-dumb-160328.html

Hi
So if I remove or access the fuse box (under the drivers side dash) will I be able to locate the relay part of the fuse box? Wondering if I can inspect and clean it?
I think that fuse box was replaced just as i bought the car due to water ingress causing problems with the original.

The warning light comes on after about 2 miles from start up.

if you could do that tell me too cos i wasnt able;) ... that fusebox has a complex electronic circuit within and two boards soldered to each other...you have to separate them than follow the circuit on the board from the connector's pin untill that relay... which i wasnt up to do then, here is how it looks inside but i dunno which of those relays is or maybe an other which is hidden

Wow that's a bit more complicated than I hoped for ! Is there any other way to disable the hill descent without the proper diagnostic machine?
