Jack, I've just been up in my loft to put the christmas tree away and found an old rigid aerial and SWR meter. I'm not sure if a rigid one is suitable for driving around with, never mind laning but you're quite welcome to it if you want.

Ooh that would be awesome! What sort of cable does it have? Ill see if i can upload a piccie of the back of my cb.

Also what do you guys use for speakers? Mine has a 3.5mm headphone output on the back. Rocket radio seem to have a separate 5 quid speaker that should fit.

rigid one sounds like a dv27 and will befineaslong as you7 donot clobber anything!

What body part did you use to type that?:D:D:p

jcuk will it fit this? don't know if it is one standard fitting as i've never had one before.

First day off the booze for the new years resolution of only having a skin full at special occasions or family gatherings. I cant say I feel better for it so I will reserve judgement.

Also its back to the gym 2-3days a week after havin 3months of due to a bruised wrist Ive gained 8lbs!!

To anyone that wants a seat. I should he bringing my two brothers in law with me but if they bail for any reason then I'll have a spare seat and you'd be welcome to hop in.

Yep. Thats the UHF connector that the SWR meter connects to, but when I say I've got a spare aerial, that all it is - an aerial. It needs a cable and mount. I've got a spare wing mount you can have but I'm not sure if I've got a cable and obviously you need to drill holes to mount it. If you;re going to all that trouble you would be better off with the aerial higher up somewhere else - I've got mine on the back just under the gutter line.

IIRC the aerial is a firestick? It looks like it wouldn't survive the first contact with a branch.

I'll bring that along whatever I can find and you can take whats any use to you.

You need coaxial cable; a connector for the cb called a PL259, and some strippers. Ideally a soldering iron as well.

Don't get it wrong.... if you create a short or a bad connection the output transistor on the rig will blow and you will be running 1/2 watt instead of the usual 4 watts. That means almost no range and **** receiving.

IMHO Trying to set it up in the morning is a mistake if you do not have the requisite equipment. Happy to help install it this end any time you are free... but doing it for tomorrow will be a nightmare.

LRJack,

I'm with Ryder,

Get some cable and the connectors from the Letchworth but setting it up properly and swr it in right once when you have plenty of spare time.

Ok cheers guys, I will see what you have tomorrow jcuk and probably go pick up the bits on wednesday before the pub. There is a hole in the o/s wing which probably once had an aerial in so I might see if that will work.

Have we got a ryder cup trophy made yet? :D:D

No problem. I've found some cable too which might be useful. My wing mount has a mini UHF connector on it, but the cable is plain ended so this would need to be sorted. If you need anything soldering up let me know and I can bring an iron on wed if we can scrounge a mains socket at the pub.

No but I have the original shackle that I could pass on to the next winner!

Give it to jai so he can make it part of the trophy!! :D

I'll dig out the welder in the next couple of days see if I can knock up a new trophy to be passed around each year.

Sounds great :D:D:cool:

Hahaha I have a soldering iron somewhere here not too sure what the landlady will say but lets see what we need tomorrow. Thanks very much for all this :D:)

I use a GAS soldering iron on cars usually, lots of heat (or turn it down) and no mains cable.

They are very good tools, and well worth the little they cost.
