Seems like you guys had a good day out... been working on the motor here wioth Kai mst of the day.

I have a technical question which might be better ased elewhere but we'll start here first...

Exactly why does my engine stop when I turn off the ignition?

How are you getting on with the landy/photo's LRJ?

Tank is here and some random parts subsituted for others. For example one bolt seems to have been substituted for a antiroll bar bolt which is about 50x the size lol! Some random jubilee clips missing which is a bummer :( Finally managed to work out how the sender unit clips into place that was a real mind puzzle!! I have some sort of fuel tank cradle which protects it but it doesn't seem to fit and I don't seem to have paid for it either

Its now under the landy gonna hopefully get a lift to get the odd parts that are missing from some motor shop tomorrow.

Jai do you want me to send you or Andy these UJs? Can you pm me an address? Did you find a replacement brake pipe at all?

Whats everyone else up to tomorrow?

Because it stops pumping fuel into the pistons? wtf do you mean is it some kind of trick question? lol

Th question has now been resolved. However LRJ... My question was concerning the specific arrangement that MADE it stop pumping fuel into the engine... and you might like to know that the fuel is actually pumped into the cylinder as I understand it... surely pumping fuel into the piston would be kind of pointless?

However I now the info needed to make my tracker do even more wondrous things.:D

Exactly why does my engine stop when I turn off the ignition?

On a petrol engine the answer is because the fuel pump, ignition and fuel injection all get turned off so no fuel and no sparks mean there is nothing to go bang and nothing to light it with.

With a diesel, the ignition is provided by the compression so you can't turn off the ignition so the key turns off the power to a solenoid which stops the fuel. I suspect it also turns off the fuel pump in the tank.

Does that help?

Sorry for the pictures on their sides

Thanks Kev... had the info sent across last night too and started work on the electrickery to link with the tracker.

Now then... just run out of PAS fluid and just trying to bleed the mew system...anyone got any hanging about I could borrow?

nice pics

yea my landys had a bit of a rough time - to be fair a rogue turbo swap from a good one to a bad one and various other things havent helped it - poor things been stood up nigh on 18 months.

keeping fingers crossed it'll be back on the road this month, kris is having a bit of a hard time of it, seems getting the injector pump off - which i believe is near enough the lest job - is causing alot more hassle than it should. was hoping to get it back by january because i been driving round in a sketchy volvo since then round welsh lanes not really designed for one. sods law i guess, and to be fair i did punish it a bit. really miss the bloody thing though, hopefully wont be long

New tank bolted in, new sender unit fitted in (although not sure which way round to wire it), filler pipe and breather pipe need to be attached (need more clips). Spill return pipe fitted. Fuel pick up pipe fitted.

getting there then fellas! That's what we likes to see!

Pas system is in... pipes all bolted up and waiting for some more fluid on the morrow... got an MOT for the astra in the afternoon n'all

Rear seatbelt replaced this evening - not a lot i know but I do have the kids as well!
