put a deposit on a v8. well when all's said and done... my shogun will go anywhere a disco will. But the disco stands a chance of getting out!

Hi Chris, if it doesn't work out with getting the V8 Disco, i know someone that has a TDI 200 Disco with a engine rebuild done by Land Rover. Due to a Land Rover dealer fitting a timing belt and not tightening the front pully and recking the crank. Full engine rebuild at there cost, pulls like a train.

Hi Guys

Well I got my V8. And very nice for the money it is too. Looking to get some steering protection before taking it out but thing are looking good!

Looking at doing a few lanes on Sunday. Probably cambridge/fens. Anyone thats up for joining in please let me know.

Cheers

Your best bet is to convert the steering to the defender type. i.e move the steering damper from underneath (trackrod) to the front out the way then there isn't really any need for the protection if you think you will need sometething then mabe go for a sumo bar Sumo make the conversion kits aswell. There is alot of bling about for the landys but driven right (sympathetically) there is no real need unless doing the mad stuff. Jai

You can easliy blow thousands of pounds on stuff you don't really need. A standard disco with a good set of tyres and mabe a new set of springs that havent (settled) driven correctly you will be away! with plenty of money for the important stuff!

Ryder, it's a Land Rover. Like Jai says, unless you're going mental, it's plenty tough enough for laning. First thing is some decent recovery points, if it hasn't got them already. Diff guards are worthwhile, cheap and easy to fit.
You've seen what a Disco can do, get used to it first, then see what mods you want to do later.

If I was you Ryder, go to paddocks buy a some jate rings at least 2 anyway(approx £18 for the front) thats the cheapest and probably best recovery point. Rear end: Unless you are likley to be towing anything on a standard hitch remove it carefuly so you can wack it on ebay even if you get 20 quid put that towards a pin or a decent Nato hitch on the highest mount you can find. Discos have a long overhang best to remove the plough if your not likely to be using it.

If you have side steps fitted junk them! when ever the disco bottoms out they will bend up and you won't be able to open your door (its quite funny to watch though)!

When you remove the rear tow point if its the low type you can see the state of the chassis if its badly rusted it needs sorting before any tow point gets attached, that goes for any s/h unknown motas, Ive seen too many series and defender cross members ripped off because somone used filler and fibreglass to 'Fix' it for its MOT. I would think it would be ok but it needs checking.

Oh He's got a Land Rover hours upon hours of maintainance you'll love it and learn alot!

Jai

"love it and learn alot"
i certainly am feeling that,
finding out where oil is coming from??
finding how to repair bits and wire others,
i love my landy and its easy to go overkill when spending out on gadgets!
trust me i know! i think its 10 lights on the front now, great for sitting behind Chavs, looks pretty, but not a necessity!
ryder, let me know a meeting point for sunday!!

Dan

Ryder,

Cambridge/fens on Sunday sounds good. I might bring a mate along in his 90. Good news on the Disco then, how about going halves on a petrol tanker?

Like the guys have said, don't go too mad with the kit, drive it about a while and decide what you want to do with it. In standard form you will be surprised how much they can do. the biggest thing you can do is change the tyres.

Hey Ryder cant wait to see all you and your family in your new shiny wagon , your gona have a blast !...

Well my disco is straight out of the box , apart from Bf ATs on all four corners , .

So with a little getting used to using hi and lo and diff lock when needed, it will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go .. .

I also want to put a steering guard and diff gaurds . .

Discos did well in the camel trophy in standard form . and when were stuck at least we got friends around and a hot brew .. Oh and Spyders 5 feet Hi Lift lol .... and everyones ropes and shackles and alot of grit and luck .

TC all

we want piccies Ryder. I don't beleive you gotta disco unless I see the proof.:p :p :p

OK Rattie.... I am taking it ou tomorrwo and Sunday so I'll post some photos then.. The wife is (hopefully) going to have a go at a few lanes in the Shogun as well.

I understand what you guys are saying about bling. It isn't my intention to spend a ****load on unnecessary equipment, however, I believed that a few sensible precautions should save me from gief later. Rock sliders with high lift points (point in fact last week), and a few samll others. Other than that my intention is the same with the disco as it was with the shogun... learn to drive it as standard... then choose a few tricks later.

Spyderman... may see you brifly at DiscoBashers tomorrow.

Rock and tree slidders are a good thing to go for, better to buy tree slidders now than have to buy new doors later.
