Help,,,,,,,,,,can anybody assist,,,,,my twit of a son has bought (3 weeks ago) a lovely land rover v8, only to find he can't afford to run it,,,,,,,,can anybody with any knowledge of such things advise the best way to sell it as the car place he bought it from wants to buy it back £700 less than what he paid!!!!! sharks

thanks in advance

Hiya mate. Welcome to the loony zone.

We need a bit more information to be able to assist you properly. What is it? a defender? a discovery, a series landrover? What year is it? What condition? any extras? how much did he pay? How many miles on the clock? Was it a main dealer, local independent specialist or back street garage he got it from? any service history or receipts? got any pictures?

If he payed over the odds for it in the first place it may be hard to recoup your money and you may be better to give it back to where it came from and accept the dented wallet. If the price was fair then you should be able to sell it easily without losing out financially.

It's hard to work out the rough value if we don't know what it is.

£700 sounds good, the thievin bastids normally try and sting at least a grand from any deal they do. Ebay or autotrader are the way to try and sell privately - but the "list" price will probably be a grand less for a private sale as to a warrantied garage sale anyway.

Hi Ratty, thanks for your quick reply,,,,,,,,looking at the new log book it says,,,,,Land Rover Discovery E5 V8l auto......estate,,,N Reg,,,,,,petrol,,,,,,,erm,,,,,,looks like 2 owners, my son possibly the second one,,,,,,belive it has a land rover service up to 6,000 and now 98,000 on clock,,,,has leather inside,,,,,,,,,and asking for £2,200,,,,,,,,,what do you think?

Is the car pukka or have you found a lot of hidden nasties? If you got it off a dealer they may be more inclined to up the refund they offer if you can persuade them that if they don't, there will be a lot of expensive work to do under the warranty?

Might be worth you getting things like the transfer, gearbox, chassis, bodywork etc checked over by someone who really knows what to look for?

PS Welcome to LZ!

oh dear,,,,,,,,,poor sod had saved up,,,,,,,,phew,,,,they must have seen him coming,,,,,,,,,oh my,,,,,,,,,,,,,it is a lovely car but he really can't afford it,,,tut.,,,,,thanks very much and do appreciate your honesty.

Thanks again

Nope,,,,no problems,,,,,runs like a dream and very nice looking,,,,,,,,just darned expensive for a young boy!

Then this is where dad comes in! If he's determined to get rid of it, the £1500 offered by the dealer sounds like it might be worth taking, and it is paternal duty to mitigate the upset by meeting him half way with the loss - after all "he didn't ask to be born"!!!

Yep,,,,,insurance company took £500 and charging £250 approx per month in installments ,,,,,,,,,,,oh,,,,,I feel so bad for him,,,,,,might get a loan and buy it off him myself and park on the drive with a for sale sign so he can at least cancel the insurance 'rip off'......oh to be a mother eh,,,,,,,,,
