I'm based up in Edinburgh. And can only repeat what's been said. It would probably be a long way, but depending on when, i could try and get down to help with the rebuild. And to put faces to names on here :).

Hope all gets sorted out either way!

(Thats his "I'm a very serious dog. Now pet me!" look. He than starts scraping with his paw, preferrable your arm, leg or any other exposed area)

Very cute. Four stone of beagle is more than fine, if beagle can cope with about 8 -9 stone of Irish wolfhound and a greyhound who lives life as if amphetamines just aren't fast enough. There are good dog walks locally...and our fields to run in. :) Our dogs won't follow you to the loo but sometimes the cats sit...one on each knee:eek: very undignified :eek:

Right update: the insurance engineer went to where we bought it from..actually physically went...what a nice guy!...and says that he thinks the LR does need revaluing, and to be considered a ''classic vehicle'' not just an old car. so they are probably going to revise up at least a little bit. (also means we'll pay more for the buy back, and that our premiums will be more impacted, but....in for a penny in for a pound I suppose.)

Also, I have, as asked put location in user CP.

I'm sure I'm sounding like a broken record, but thank you. This must be one of the kindest places on the internet.

Finally treat yourself to a proper respray for around £500 and it will be fine.
With the money left over get yourself some nice new defender alloys to really finish it off.

I think with the money left over I should get something for being such a patient wife...really  But respray....does that mean I coul petition for it NOT to be red in the future? That would be good...

respray and landrover are not words that normally go together, there's nowt wrong with spending £50 on a load of nato green and a couple of rollers then spend the change treating yourself;).

dont forget to look around (specially at the mo - coz prices are high) at an equivalent motor - get half a dozen ones that are similar to yours, print off the for sale prices - better still get bumf from forecourts if you can. That is what the insurance co should offer you - the price to replace yours on a like for like basis.

Scrap value - as i said - check on line what you would be offered - that will give a guide as to what the insurance co would expect to get for it.

Loads of peeps in Wiltshire - must be a couple that would help rebuild it if thats what yu want.

Thanks. The online scrap dealers I'm finding I've filled in the forms for call back. I note that a few of them say cars from 2000 or 95 onwards though!

Nearest indie LR garage have a near enough comparable (i.e. rougher and higher milage than DH's) at £6k I noted, not online, place we bought it from are going to forward us any comparables they see too.

I am getting a borrowed car for the day on Saturday, so before then will scour LR sales places online.

re colour....I'm hoping someone suggests to dh a nice elephant grey or something....;)

Also, whats the best way to get it back home? We can put it in a barn so its dry. Seems to me which ever option we go for getting it home is a good idea..

Hire a trailer £50 a day or if you post you might find one on here that someone is willing to lend. Check out LZ Courier service section. Sorry I'm a bit far away to do help with the rebuild :(

blimey you've got a barn anorl, this sounds like a good weekend getting it rebuilt if it happens. I'll chip in with me web cam anorl, we could have a Landy rebuild show on the go ;)

whereabouts is the land rover at the moment?

The landrover is in Westbury (the police, who were brilliant...and loved the landy, had it removed to their place and the insurers took it from there to westbury). Its not so far away....a stones throw really.

Borrowing a trailer won't help....the thing we'd pull it with is what we need to bring home :D

And no, I won't ask for pink, I promise. The hope for me is to be LESS conspicuous. :) A nice matt pale grey :)

look up the LZ courier service. there are a couple of peeps that transport stuff - and a couple more yo way with trailers.

Thank you! Posted there and also saw the thread with a commercial company offering a discount!

I'm really hoping we'll be able to help other people out with return favours: you are all being so kind. e.g. as the barn seems to be the bonus I might be able to offer barn space to other people locally wanting somewhere undercover for their restorations?

(we have a barn because I am a small holder, we live in a house that is beautiful but quite literally falling down :rolleyes:but we have barns :))

we can even fix up falling down houses - good peeps in yo area :D

ROFL...this is brilliant!

Well, anyone local with a trade should definitely tell me, because we have a lot of work over a lot of years for a lot of people! So might be able to put work people's way. :) We don't know very many people here, because we're new to the area. The house is going to take years and years, but that's ok. we knew that. Just means that when something like this goes wrong it really hurts financially. I was meant to arrange an electrical survey this week, but have been so busy looking at landrovers which I know nothing about that I haven't looked for an electrician to do a survey yet...which I also know nothing about :eek:

Yes, room for tents :)
