Well ... the good news...thats repairable (the front bulkhead is the 'wall' that seperates you from the engine bay...and is an integral structural part)

Bad news...wow..you paid way too much for it.

Might not be bad news if we buy back!

we knew we'd paid a lot, but were buying to keep..didn't plan to crash! He bought it undone up, purchase price was after overhaul from the garage.

We talked long and hard about it and looked at LOTS...and it was not the most expensive of its type, and for a a bit more we could have had newer but more milage....from a LR garage. Not confident enough for private purchase

Do you understand the 'buy back' concept..?

They offer you 3500 for settlement...you agree to pay 1000 for it...so you get a cheque for 2500 plus the landy. At a guess, and please, its a guess as i'm in another country...i'd say theres max 1000 of damage there if you get GOOD bits and reasonable labour (if you don't feel you can do it).

So...you get the landy back and have 1500 after putting it on the road...this will compensate some of the way to the massive overprice you paid...sorry..being realistic.

Otherwise you get 3500 and have to find another landy...and there the circus starts all over again...

OK, lets start:

First piccy:
offside door: terminal
bulkhead O/S looks alright, so do the hinges

Second piccy:
O/S wing: battlescar. leave as is, replace indicator

Third piccy:
N/S door: looks good
bulkhead N/S: looks good

You far too dark piccy from page one:
windshield frame: terminal, so is the glass (logistically...). I've got no idea about defenders, but it's a five minute job on a series if the roof is off to get the windshield frame off.
top: sides are ok, you just need a new top.
if the windshield frame is part of the bulkhead, get it to a welder with a spare.

that is what i see from the pics, sorry for any mistakes.

explanations:
bulkhead: where the doors are screwed to, underneath the windshield, right behind the engine and wings
windshield frame: where the most respectful front glas resides

oi, I'm going to be cross with you. I had the 1000 quid in mind before you!
:D

I would just repeat what storm said above, so just a +1 from me

I understand NONE of it.:D

If they revalue it up we have to pay more though, for the carcass, they've already said that.

Any thing left over will probably go on a small car to last us if DH is going to try and do this, (I know it won't take him a day, if he got it done inside six months I'd be impressed) and he'll have to but bits out of salary.

edit: if its a no go for us I think.....it won't be another landy.....not for a while...though I know he'll replace eventually.

Ok...dont panic..negotiate :)

Ask how much to buy it back IF you accept 3500 (thats what they've offered isn't it?)..

If its LESS than a grand...do it...so you have at least 2500...then buy complete nail for as little as possible...spend a grand on the 90 and i'm sure you'll have money left over.

Then crash the nail car into a tree at 20mph*

* Accidentally.

get an on-line scrappy to give yu a price for it - be honist, say its ansurance write off and they will let ya know wot the insurers should pay out on it - they have nothing to loose.
they told me - dont offer more than 4% of the write-off value to buy it back :D.

looks quite ouch to me.
Glad nothing serious happened.

Blyme, a thread where for six pages all people are friendly and no one shouts or insults anyone. Can be only a defender thread, without discos and 'landers...

I'm overwhelmed with how generous with time and knowledge people are being. :)

I'm amazed that DH got out ok. (whiplash and heartbreak:D).

TBH that's really all that matters and this stuff, to me is fluff. That car saved his life though. The police told me people flip often there and that very rarely do people who crash there walk out injury free.

The dog was fine too.

And THAT for me is the best thing you can say about that car. It saves lives.

Keep us update on what you going to do with that 90...

no point in repeating what has been said about how much you paid for it.

But if you are going to keep it and want it fixed, I'll offer some help for the rebuild, if needed.

I guess the plan of action would be, if you buy it back of the insurance company:

-Get one of the members here to go over and assess the damage and what needs to be bought.
-Provide you with a list of things
-You gather all the parts required (through ebay, scrap yards, etc), or maybe someone can give you hand with that
-Once you have all the bits to start the rebuild, fire the BBQ up, bacon rolls and a few beers and im sure a few of us can give a hand
