Hello everyone, I need help sorting a violent shake after pulling off in 1st and clutching for second gear. I recently did a full engine overhaul to my 200tdi....seals, belts, gaskets...everything done to specs but now when I pull of in 1st gear ( lt77 ) and I clutch for 2nd I get a violent shake from the engine and it sounds as if it's going to cut off but after going a bit everything starts working fine. The only thing that was not done to spec was tightening the crank bolt to 260ft pounds. I tightened to 220 and then used a regular ratchet and tightened a little more

Any help will be appreciated

Strange one that mate

If you free rev the engine up high dose drop down revs smooth as it should
Or do you think its a vehicle in motion fault

Front crank damper
Engine/gearbox mounting
Tight prop UJ
Timing out (engine trying to stall

Dose it only happen at that piont with no other symptoms at all when driving

:rolly:

An experience from many moons ago with a housemate's Vauxhall Viva yielded some similar symptoms. We did an engine swap and it seemed to me the gearbox was a bit stiff going back on but my friend said it should be alright as he squeezed the two back together, levering the bellhousing bolts with the longest breaker bar we could find. Poor gearchanges and vibration when the clutch was depressed meant that we were forced to take it apart again and we found that the gearbox input shaft had gone into the hole in the end of the crankshaft at a slight angle and butchered the bronze bush. So I'd suspect a clutch-related problem like this if it's only apparent when the clutch is down.
