Hi all
Im paul and have recently bought a ex military 1964 series 2a landrover - ie 4 days ago!.I was told everything was as good as could be.Already ive had to replace the headlight switch and now as i came outside today a nice pool of petrol is under the tank.Im wondering if the standard series 2a tank can be used as a replacement or whether specialist ex military ones have to be fitted.Maybe is it a possibility/easy to swap it over to the passenger side as this is not being used at the mo.Anyway ,hi to you all and i know i need help.Hes a great landy just needs a bit of help to be awesome.
cheers

Go to the series section...and buy standard parts...the military used very little aftermarket stuff...this idea that ex military landys are a different beast is a myth, mainly used as a sales trick...they are in no way superior or better than most landys that haven't been in the forces.

thats all well and good storm but civvy versions of the tank have an external filler where as mine is under the drivers seat

p.s. i was in the army for 14 years so i know about how landys are treat and serviced there. the thing is this landy was decomissioned 2 years after i was born so i dont know much about this series.I was a bit busy in the royal engineers to fret about fuel tanks at the time

You probably have this sorted by now but:
The underseat tanks (yours will have 2) are interchangeable. Some poeple try to add the civilian tanks, but it ruin the military Land Rovers and thier resale is heavily affected. There have also been questions raised over insurance issues of modifying the fuel tank system.

Military fuel tanks are available though and they can be replaced very easily.

Try one of the military vehicle forums for specific military parts questions. Anything else you will usually get better quality of advice from a forum like this one.

What was the military number of yours? I have a 1964 SWB FFR (MoD called it a Rover 8 FFR) in the EL range of numbers.
