Hi I'm sure this has been asked before, but here goes. Disco key got squashed, and now does not work. Have started iher using the emergency code, but need new keys. Do I have to go through Landy dealer, or is there a cheaper way please? Many thanks.

the going rate for a second hand key at a LR auto jumble is around 20 quid, you can simply change the blade then find someone with a nanocom to program up the guts for you... that's the cheapest option

Sorry for the late reply, thanks guys. It's a 2002, is that Series 2? What is a Nanocom please!! Who would have one, garage?? I'll check out your link sierafery, thanks.battenburg, are they easy to find at autojumbles? Trouble is don't think north devon has that many, if any at all!

2002 will be a Discovery 2.

Keys can be easily sourced on the internet, I usually pay about £10 to £15 for mine. The problem will be finding someone with a nanocom ( which is a diagnostic unit, that programs the car to accept the key). The link sierrafery gave have a known good reputation and will provide a plug in returnable unit that will program the car to accept the new key. If you are desperate then that would be the route I would take unless anyone pops up on here with a nanocom. You could try popping into the regional section on here and asking if anyone local to you has a nanocom available.

Or even look at the Landyzone international rescue map and seeing if anyone local has one , send them a polite request via PM.

Good luck.

Cheers

Hi
Have ordered from Remote Key, as you said, a lot cheaper than main dealer! Asked around, no-one can remember the last auto jumble held anywhere like local, so went with this, as need to get it sorted asap. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again. x

I've seen few too but all of them were Rover 75 keys even though they were advertised as D2 keys and we all know what's the difference... here's the risk: if the car stood unlocked more than 15 seconds and the R 75 fob fails to give unlock command(let's say due to faulty microswitch which is common) then the engine will be unstartable due to the passive immobiliser as the R 75 fob doesnt have the "hardware" to work with the passive remobilisation exciter coil...i've seen this with my own eyes not once
