Hi guys. Ive bought a lovely 1998 freeander for my girl. we have just picked up some 6 SPOKE FREEDOM 17" ALLOYS,CODE NUMBER RRC114810NMH with 215/45ZR1791W tyres on.
They actually look smaller than the original wheels that were on??. Im assuming its the size of the tyres that make it look like this (low profile). Can any one advise what the right psi would be for these tyres. When i take them down to say 30psi they look flat. would you suggest larger tyres or can i increase the presure?

30 / 31PSI is about right for these wheels. LR state 26 all round, but this seems to low.

My 17's were 225/55 R17 - so it seems the tyres are actually the wrong size. Won't be much of a problem as the speedo's are 5 - 10% out - test with a Sat Nav to see.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks Pal. so to be sure, if I change the tyres for the same size a s yours theyll look like a better fit in the wheel arch and the speedo should be ok? hope im not sounding to stupid here!

yep a 45 profile is very low for a freelander in my opinion. These are VW GTI sports type specs. My vw at 30psi looks flat I inflate to 35 psi have done 40 psi but a harsh ride.

No idea why the look flat, Can only suspect manufacturer is hiding something??

You need a bigger profile on them really a 55 or 65 maybe?

Thanks Jedi. your a star. Im just wondering now if I should really go for a 65 to give the wheel arch a fuller look what do you think?. wish i could find an pic of a Landy with them. Loving it that much Im thinking of giving her my Celica Tsport and keeping the Freelander. But dont tell the Celica owners club lol

Be careful - I think 235/65 R17 tyres will be too big and foul the suspension.

On 225 55 R17, there was only a small clearance (say 5mm If I remember).

I would be tempted to stick with the OE size or researcha little further -could be a costly mistake if they don't fit / get damaged....

Steve
