Please check with your insurance comany first as some will not cover you using your vehicle as a voluneer, we did this some years back some of our members came unstuck.

Seriously if your insurance company doesnt allow it your in a world of pain

It was a genuine question. I'd like to know where the lines are.

I 'volunteered' to drive some people who were stranded at a train station. I knew there would be people stranded there because I'd had to make the journey for my girlfriend's son because the closest station was closed.

She volunteered me for that bit :p

So would I, I was asked by the insurance company for my D2 whether I did any voluntary work? Not sure how it makes any difference and I did not pursue it any further. I Might have to make a call tomorrow.

Cheers

could it possibly be to do with having public liability insurance , ie if u had an accident and a member of public that u had in ur vehicle got hurt and if ur ins company would cover their claim

or if u ever received money for fuel , would u be considered an employee of the company asking u to volunteer

just found this ref what ins company covers volunteer work

If in doubt speak to your own insurers & tell them what you intend to do. They are the only ones who can tell you where you stand. May even be hiding somewhere in the forest of terms & conditions in your policy docs which most of us never read.
If something goes wrong then 'Someone on an internet forum said it was all right' won't cut it.

Quite correct. If you take an unknown passenger to a place of work they have to be completely naked. Nurses included I'm afraid.
