Reassembling my hubs, defender 1990.
Swivel set up with preload.
Greases up bearings on CV and slid half shafts into axle. Full range of motion and they are engaged with diff.
On stub axle I replaced the bronze bush- it’s properly seated.
Put stub on and torqued bolts up and now toasty ion of swivel is severely restricted. There doesn’t appear to be any play in the half shaft either.
Undid the bolts on stub, full range of motion recovered.
What’s going on?!

What have you replaced?
If it's the swivel balls have a good look at the old & the new to make sure they are identical in all respects, both internally & externally.

You might want to revisit your op. 'Toasty ion'?

I’m having exactly the same problem. Flushed with success at getting the axle rebuild this far, my ego was dashed when the range of motion on the swivel was so limited once the stub axle was mounted. For some reason, as far as I can tell, the CV doesn’t fit far enough into the stub axle with its new seal and bronze thrust bearing although they themselves seem properly recessed. Do I need to force the CV into the stub axle before offering the combined assemblies up to the swivel housing? Surely this would compromise the turning of the CV through the stub axle.

undo stub axle and try locating cv into the stub and if it fits ok hold cv fully into it as you retighten stub axle back onto swivel
