Help Please! P38 2.5 D

Hello - finally got to own a RR. A 1999 P38. She is gorgeous.

But since having her I have had to put in a new fuel pump and then change the heater plugs.

Since coming back from these jobs the central locking has gone squiffy. The passenger door no longer locks off the key fob - it has to be done manually. Also now the drivers door only locks off the key in the lock, not off the fob as it was before. To top off the mystery the internal lights are refusing to go off, the hazards are not coming on when trying to lock off the fob and now the headlight delay when turning it off is all confused.

Is it a computerised confusion issue? Is there anyway of attending to this simply or should I just take it back to the garage that did the work?

Advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

looks like your gona have to take it back, if you put the key in the ignition you can reset some problems, do a search and you'll find loads about it

This could either be out that the microswitch units in these two doors have failed, or they need re-syncing to the key (easy)

This doesnt always happen anyway, Im sure there are different settings, flashing, one flash, beep, or nothing when you lock it etc, there is a way of changing which option happens when locking the car from the fob, mine flashes once with no noise, where as my friends beeps and flashes a few times. I dont know why, maybe year related.

This is normal too, if you get out and it says headlight delay, the lights stay on for about a minute to allow you to see where you are walking as you go into your house, they then go off on their own, or you can flick the lights on and off to cancel it. It confused me first time It happened too, thought something had got stuck. But just lock the car and walk away, should go off within a minute.

Does the little red LED light on the FOB when you press the buttons?
Passenger door is likely to be the lock mechanism which will also keep the interior lights on.

@Rangie.lad - thank you for your helpful reply. How to re-sync the 2 front doors? Is it easy?! Definitely seems like its out of sync.

Sorry, headlight delay was working, now is not.

Also any idea how and why the internal lights are staying on? Fearing a dead battery in the morning!

Because, as I said, it thinks the passenger (or another) door is open.

As Datatek says...the passanger door lock has gone U/S

The lock mecanism contains a switch which tells the BeCM (Body Electrical Control Module) that the door is either open or closed....if the switch has gone U/S the BeCM will think it is open and not dim the lights....

The system does have a delay timer in it, so after 10-15 minutes it should turn the lights off to prevent battery drain....

Check to make sure the system switchs off the interior lights after this 10-15 minute delay, if it doesn't you may need to have the BeCM settings checked using a 'full fat' diagnostic system, like the Testbook/Autologic/Faultmate MSV Extreme et al.

This could also be linked to the Headlight Delay in some way, butnot sure how....that BeCM is a complex little beast.

Hi mrsrange, where are you based? You never know there might well be a helpful member close enough to offer practical assistance.
If your interior light does not go off at all you can switch it off completely by pressing and holding the interior light switch (about 5 seconds) until it beeps and there is a Int Lights Off message on the dash. If you download Rave it has copies of the owners handbook which will give you lots of useful information.
