Hi could anyone help i've had my disco 200 for about 3 years now never had any problems with it untill today when i went to engage low box and it wouldn't go in i can get hi range in standard and diff lock but no low range in either standard or diff lock never had trouble with it before apart from it being a little stiff but i havn't used it for about 12 months normally use it about 4 times a year for shunting my caravan around and obviously winter but not used caravan this year untill now so could this be an easy fix i.e spray something with wd40 and work lose or is it a problem any advice would be gratefully received thank you

right fella's i'm back i've taken centre consol out to get at the linkage the gear lever moves freely forwards and backwards it was a little stiff side to side selected the neutral position put some copper grease around the pin and worked it side to side got that moving more freely then looked at forward and backwards it moves very easy but itstops when the lever itself hits the hole it goes into so i took the metal plate off the top and it was still the same and it wouldn't select high or low range the connecting rod was moving ok untill it got to where it clips on at the bottom end if i select low range nothing if i select high range nothing but if i put a screwdriver down to the linkage at the bottm and give it a little nudge in the same direction to engage high it will go in but the gear lever still remains sloppy i can move it around and nothing happens all the linkages move but when it gets to that final point it doesn't seem to do anything does this mean i have to take gearbox out

that's all i need too late to do owt now going away tues morning towing my caravan oh well lock it into high box and hope i don't need diff lock or low box sods law i'll get stuck in a muddy field right down at the bottom of a hill never mind eh there's always another landy owner not far away willing to help out

cheers hope it's not too serious

Have you tried pushing the diff lock lever forward as far as it will go, put the car into gear and release the clutch slightly then go back to neutral and see if the diff lock lever will go any further?

Mine used to be really stiff (jap import so probably not used for 10 years+) and this was the way I used to get around it until it freed up :)

it's not that it's stiff that's the problem the lever is easy to move from high to low it just doesn't seem to do anything if i move it as far forward as it goes it might just take it out of high box but not engage low then when i pull it full backwards it won't engage high range i have to get a screwdriver behind the linkage where it goes into transfer box and give it a little nudge in the right direction but it is not stiff it goes into high range quite easily wont go into low range doing it that way doesn't seem as tho there's enough movement seems as tho something not quite right between the linkage and where it seleccts gears will have to investigate further when i come back off holiday too late now off down to devon in the morning towing a caravan just hoping i don't end up on a boggy campsite needing it i'll look an even dafter plank than i do now having a 4x4 and getting stuck but who gives f##k i'm still going on holiday
